i know this has been asked before so please dont flame me but i tried searching and couldnt find it. can anyone tell me what the absolute best blowoff valve is. if im not mistaken, i believe people were saying it was the hks ssqv, or it coulda been the greddy rs. i dont remember but can someone please confirm this? thanks a lot.
What is the BEST blow-off valve - 6G Celicas Forums
the greddy or the hks are top of the line. cant really go wrong with one of them, just depends on what sound you like.
15PSI - 30MPG - Megasquirt Tuned
i would not recommend the ebay rip off ones either just buy the real thing
yea your 3sgte is cool but ill stick to my 7agte

can you explain the difference in sound? because the only bovs ive heard are the kind that go 'pssshhh' and the ones that sound like a whistle:'ssssss'. or are they quite similar. im going to listen to the sound clip plyr had posted on a post about the fakes a while back. i think its of a ssqv style one.>QUOTE(nik @ Nov 28, 2005 - 2:46 PM)

you read my mind nik. lol. na man, i think im willing to take my chances. ive actually read good things about them. and of course, theres some bad stories but i usually have good luck. we'll see how deep my pockets are when the time comes and i actually decide to buy it.

do a google search ...they have some sites that have video and audio clips of the different bov's
15PSI - 30MPG - Megasquirt Tuned
HKS Super Sequential is a pull type, so it won't leak. To me, it's the best design. Plus, it's a very reliable valve...never had problems with it. I also have a Blitz Dual Drive in my Celica and it has never leaked or anything.

ive seen a few people have issues with the hks.. tho i cant say if it was user error or a faulty product.

What about the turboxs bov's they seem to be pretty inexpensive but also seem to be
all over the place. Are they decent or just pieces of crap like the hks greddy knock off's??

I wouldn't use a TurboXS BOV...for the fact that everybody I know that has one, has had trouble with them.

I have a turbo xs and havent had any problems. but i don't like it because it's sooo loud. If you want the steriotypical turbo loud bov sound, turbo xs...
HKS and tXS are the loudest, XS is PSHHH hks is the sneezing BOV. I prefer the hks one but im running BOV less for now due to funds on another aspect of the project
94' ST Coupe - 5sfe Motor swap and brake swap.
you can get inserts for the hks that make it not as loud. i have the recirculation adaptor on mine, but not circulated. it just makes a phhhsss without the high pitched part.
15PSI - 30MPG - Megasquirt Tuned
hks ssqv leaked for me the first few min after installation...damn thing kept opening. i still dunno why this happened but after giving it some gas it started working fine and has been working fine ever since.
and maybe its just cuz i dont have a vented hood but my hks doesnt seem too loud and im on stock boost...but my friends alltrac is crazy loud also on stock boost tho he got his right under a vent.

Depends on which sound your after really, Ive got the Blitz Super Sound for the pssshh sound and the HKS SSQV for the chirpy whistle, both excellent products both highly reccomended.
1994 JDM GT4 WRC
HKS SSQV !!!!!!
i have the HKS SSQV and it's awesome. mine is loud since it's right beside my hood vent lol.

I like my Tial BOV.
But really, it doesn't matter. I ran a stock MR2 dump valve on one car without any issues.

TIal is probally the best blow off valve if you are willing to spend the money on one.
1994 celica GT.....3sgte in a month! all helpers are welcome!!! i live in Plattsburgh, NY.
I have a HKS SSQV (but no car to use it on!!
)
I wouldn't use any other than HKS.

ok i found out what a blow off valve is for (to avoid being flamed
) A blow-off valve is mounted in the intake plumbing between the turbocharger compressor and the throttle plate. The blow-off valve is a second safety measure against the turbocharger over-boosting and damaging the engine Optionimports.com but what causes overboost?

its not to prevent over boosting. its to prevent compressor surge. basically when the throttle plate closes, the turbo is still spining but the compressed air has no place to go. this puts a lot of strain on the turbo blades and coul damage the turbo. with a bov, the presure is released from the piping and no surging happens
and most important of all... its a cool noise maker

Not sure how the BOV helps preventing over boosting at all. Most BOV's dont open until the pressure is beyond 45PSI or so. Are you sure you weren't reading about the wastegate?
The BOV's main purpose is to help performance and drivability. When the throttle body door is closed, all that pressurized air has nowhere to go - without a BOV or bypass valve, the air back-feeds to the turbo causing it to stall. The BOV is there to release the pressurized air and allow the turbo to keep spinning.
The stock Toyota BOV's are setup to recirculate the pressurized air - feed it back into the intake piping and keep the turbo fully boosting during shifts.
Damn, typed too slow!

i love my apexi dual drive. i have always liked there products.

If you going for the loudest pushhhh I think the blitz onces are the best, but HKS bov's are sweet.

312whp with more to come....
i prefer the old school style greddy S.. loud, fast valve, and be re-circulated if need/want to.
so the stock 3sgte's come with a wastegate? it just recirculates the air? so in order to hear the released air, you have to get a bov?
does anyone have some pics? I am trying to understand all this :-)

a bov and a wastgate are 2 seperate things. wastegate is on the turbo and allows ehaust gases to bypass the turbine so not to over boost and bov vents pressurized intake charge so not to cause compresser surge. sum up wastegate =exhaust and bov=intake

No offense, but I think you may need to review the basics:
