Before this , I painted my interior Silver with clearcoat. IT worked out fine and it did not scratch easily.

This time around, I am painting it back to matt black.

I have gone ahead and done it , 400grit ->600grit -> 3 coats Duplicolor Adhesion promoter(primer) -> 3-4coats VHT Enamel interior/exterior paint.



I have left it overnight(12hours~) and it seems that the paint scratches off easily. I do not remember it being that easy last time. Was it the clearcoat that helped? This time around I am going for Matt Black therefore a clearcoat is out of the question..

Should I spray more layers today and let it dry again?

paint 1 layer, let it dry, paint a 2nd layer, let it dry, 3rd layer, same thing. After that you should be good, thats what I did.

you can use a clear coat on matte finsh just buy a matte clear coat.. krylon makes a matte finsh clear.

Can't find any matt clearcoat around here. Does the clearcoat really help?

Well since I already have 3 layers on there, you are saying I should paint another couple of layer and then let it dry fully again

What grit sandpaper before I paint now, dont want to take off much of the old paint. 1200?

the clear is really going to help protect the paint. and wet sand with 600. paint let it dry and you can try ordering here or at least see the product i was talking about.

Left it to dry for 2days + now and it feels like touching carbon paper . leaves marks on my fingers when i touch it.

Any idea?

have you used clearcoat yet? Clearcoat is what prevents scratching and flaking. Give it one more spray of the matte black and go buy some matte clear finish and put a few coats of that on.

ok not to steal the guys thread, but i have a question about the actual plastic pieces. Mine have a few scratches on them, any way to get them out without totally messing up the plastic? I figured u could sand it lightly, but will it mess up the plastic alot? And i cant get the passenger side dash vent out. Any suggestions?

yank and pull out the passenger air vent. you will most probably break off the two botttom plastic but it will fit right back in due to the metal clips on top.

Finally found the paint that gives me the result i want, Duplicolor vinyl and fabric works a treat and looks very factory.
