hey all 6gcers-
i was wondering...how wide can i get some rims without hitting anything/making it look like a low rider (the tires spilling outside of the wheel well)
anyway, right now, i have a set of 7th. gen 15''x7'' wheel...but i'm looking for some more handling power...i.e. wider tires...plus they look awesome...
any suggestions?
shoot your thoughts on this post. . . .
thank you,

15" wide try re-reading your rims right
most you would really want is like 8" wide

there you go much better writing....
there is a point called too wide....
you won't need anything more then 8" wide
and i'd suggest a 16" rim diameter
so a 16x8 wheel should be nice
will 16X8 be a lot different than 15x7
. . . if so why? (a little comparison please:))
. . . btw does diameter effect performance?

diameter effects performance.....too larger and handling will suffer 16 is pretty much the ideal size for it from what i've read and talked to a few guys at the track.....you can get them in light weight as well..
16x8 how much better than 15x7?
anyway other suggs guys?
what is the absolute widest one can go? (not to sound poetic...lol)

I have a set of 19x8 that fit without any tire rub, 225/35/19F, 245/35/19R tires, they grip awsome Nitto 555 tires. They are more of a showie rim but basicly what I wanted for now, I am however looking into gettin some 16x8 as player reccomended with about the same tire size as my 19"s. Most people will disagree with my different tire size's but I found my particular celica likes to slide out in the rear alot and it helped the problem for now.

clip if you slide a little look into antisway bars to help with that
a more minor note strut bars will help was well
I have 15x7 .. i see no problem with it. I think if i were to get a set of wheels.. id look for a 16x8 or 17x8.
size, is more related to how much power you have. If you have stock engine, id so no more than 16" for performance. A large wheel will diplace power better, for better traction.
A wider wheel, will not only help displace power better, but will also give you better traction and handle on corners/turns.
to wide of a tire, might be harder to drive, also more xpensive.
To larger of a tire, will slow you down. larger mass to rotate, means more power to rotate same speed as a lesser size. also loss of ride qulaity, cause you have to get smaller wheels.
Clip how are you "sliding out" on a FWD car?

great guys, good comments...learnin'

- - - plesae answer this question:
what is (or how could i) feel the difference between a 16x8 wheel, and a 15x7 wheel?
Also i have a stock engine...i'm taking it i should not go above a 16x8?
. . . think i could for handling perposes?

I have a set of 16X8 wheels. Great performers, and the wideness of the wheel makes handling a breeze. The downside is that tires are pricey as hell. I have 225/50R 16's and tires are about 550 bucks. I wasn't too happy about that, so I bought 17X7 wheels for spring.
bigger wheels to affect your Spedometer, Braking distance, acceleration ect.
I would say stick with a smaller wheel like 16X8 if your stock, even though it wouldn't have much of a noticable difference.

I have a set of 8x18" with 225/40 tires. But i think 8.5or9" wides wouldnt be any problem. IMO i really like wide rims. 2 bad i have only 8" wides.

Anything over 8" is running close to rubbing during turns and other normal driving situations.
EDIT: not rubbing on wheel well, like a lowered car might, but on the suspension.
The only way you could have 9" wide wheels is if you changed the offset and had functional fender flares.

The size of the wheel isn't going to make a difference, its the size of the tire that will make the ride different. Stick with a 50 series tire on 16's, and maybe 50 or 55 on a 15". For handling perposes go with a LIGHTWEIGHT 16X8, like a Motegi Traklite or Gram Lights ect.
Answer the question?

I want to order Tein Superstreet coilovers, ST sway bars, and currently have on backorder Cusco Front/Rear strut bars and lower frame brace. I think once I can get all those peices I will have a close to perfect suspension, I also am gonna look into gettin the door Jam braces that DG is or was makin.

when I was rocking the 185's and the 205's of my GT and ST wheels, the ass end being nothing back there weighing anything would always swing out on me around hard corners because of weight transfer.

I have some on my laptop. Whenever I get the thing charged up I have some good pics of my 16X8's. It looks hot from the back IMO, kinda sad that I am stepping down to 7" wide.. Oh well, there will be another day...
