Knocking in trunk - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #30213 21 posts Started by FSX_Celica94GT
every time i drive on this one road which is very bumpy, i hear this knocking around noise in the back coming from the trunk. It sounds like a block of wood knocking around back there, but i cant find what it would be, anyone else have this problem or know what it is?

It's not just about getting from point A to point B anymore....
I had this problem. For me it was the tire tools in the hatch moving around, I wrapped them all in towels and secured them properly. Problem solved.

might be ur muffler or exhaust tubing!!!

I'd have to agree with Cutrara. Make sure your spare and all your tools back there are secured properly.

Could be struts.

i noticed the same noice after i replaced my struts, haven't had a chance to jack the car up to find out the exact location of the noise

its not the tools, ive already checked that. This was also before i got my new struts in also. Its not metal against metal sound, idk, i might just have to deal w/ it.

try replacing rear sway bar bushings... i think they're only like 6 bucks from the dealer and really easy to change out.
just realized that my strut bearing and strut mount might need to be replaced, that could be causing the bumping noise for me
check that your scissor jack isnt moving around as well. if i had to put money on it tho, i would say its your rear sway bar bushings that attach to the chassis, mine are worn and it is causing the same noise problem.
Well for me it was the dead body sorta the price you pay for being a mafia lacky but they say I'll move up soon.

I live with it everyday. I think its the movement of the struts. I don't have any tools nor a spare and it still does that.

if everything is secure in the hatch/trunk area, then most likely it is the rear strut mounts. You can buy new ones from the dealer (don't bother buying crappy aftermarket ones) and replace them. The job isn't too difficult start to finish, you just need the right tools and no fear. Manny and I replaced them on his car. I have the "bumps" back there too and I will probably be doing mine next summer.

i'm 99% positive it's ur strut mount, i recently got fet up of the exact same problem. what a pain that was (the knocking sound). Replacing it was extremely easy and man am i ever glad i fixed it, it was driving me nuts !
One way to check is pop off the strut tower caps, look inside where the bolt is, push/pull the car up and down and if you see it move then thats what it is.

check the cover the sits right behind the rear seats that moves up and down when you open and close the hatch

it used to do that to me... it sounds exactly like logs rolling around
I have that problem all the time, I just go back there and slap them around a little bit and tell them to knock it off, or else I'll keep the ransom money and kill them anyways. Usually they quiet right down.

Hope that helps.

I had that problem with my civic, every big bump I hit I would hear a klunk, it ended up being my strut, I had coilovers on, and stock struts, witch on one side bent it enough to let the top of the strut (where the bult is that holds the top mounting peace to the shock) so that it could slide almost freely from it up and down. (makes for a bad ride too)
I have the same problem in my celi... I always thought that my trunk didnt close really tight and that it was bouncing over big bumps. How do I get to the strut mounts on a coupe? That could be it.

anyone kno where to get the OEM rears? i can only find the fronts, says they're KYB's.
Struts
The OEMs are the cheapest, but only the fronts are on there, along w/ all the other sites.

for oem struts and shocks go to Auto Zone or a Schucks, thats one good thing about thoes stores is getting good priced oem replacements pretty easaly.
How much are the strut mounts from the dealer?
