Do Celicas have Timing Belts? >rolleyes.gif>

Cuz we cant find one... So we're not sure if there is one or not...

look behind the timing blet cover, passengers side of the motor.

Looking at the engine, on the left. Under the timing belt cover. Opisit side from throttle body. You need to remove the mount, and the power steering resivar, and the alternater I think. Then you can take off the cover and belt. You'll need to get in through the fender to line it up if your going to change it. I probably left something out in there. You'll see it when you get in there.

Not much simpler than that.... just find the number 9 on your car, and rip the engine apart (of course as shown) to get to your timing belt lol

But yeah! thanks! Looks like its gonna be hard to replace it. When are you suppose to change them? Isnt it like every 150,000 miles? I dunno... I have no clue about this engine stuff!

I'd say every 50k. I'm really causios about my car. It's in great shape and nothing hardly ever breaks. I see it as I'm actually saving money. I'll be able to keep this car forever the way it going now. That means I never haff to spend money on a payments. At the same time, the car stays nice and is a pleasure to drive.

Every 75k miles.

If it breaks on our cars it won't hurt anything are engines are made so that if the timing belt breaks the pistons will not hit the valves. It will just be a pain to get in time again, but not that bad.

How is it set up like that? I've never heard of a engine being like that.

He means there are imports out there with engine's called low clearence engines, low clearence means that if your water pump goes out your timeing belt will shred and your valves don't close and make the piston go into it. when you have an engine like ours that doesn't happen because the pistons and valves are not that close together. My pump went out and took my belt and ya that is fun stuff to replace. >thumbsdown.gif>

I've been in there a cuple times working on stuff. It's not to bad, but it's no party. Seems to me that the valves should be closer to the pistons, the engine does have 9.5:1 compresion. Nice to know that I don't have much to worry about if my water pump goes out. I'm going to haff to change that soon. It could go bad, then it'd be a pain changing. lol, like it matters, now or later. I'm still going to do it next weekend now.

correct, both the 5s and 7a are listed as non-interference engines in that the crankshaft and camshaft can be rotated independently from each other without worry of contact. recommended interval for replacement is 60000 miles as i found in chiltons.
I think Bigfoot is blurry, that's the problem. It's not the photographer's fault. Bigfoot is blurry. And that's extra scary to me, because there's a large, out-of-focus monster roaming the countryside.

Yeah, I was all antsy to get my belt changed until I found out our engines are non-interference (just hit like 125k, manual says every 60k and manual supplement says 75k)

I was just so used to my Honda engine, man if the timing belt woulda gone out on my Prelude I woulda been screwed but I was happy to find out that that's not the case with the celi
