transmission swap - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #29020 9 posts Started by Youds
i see you have instructions on here to swap from auto to manual, but what manual trannys can i swap for a st204, i have a 1st gen 3sge from an 86 gts and can get a st204 motor/tranny for free but auto is not appealing to me ;p
S54 (GT tranny). I have also read that the S53 (5th gen GT tranny) and the 4th gen GT tranny works. A guy with a 4th gen bought my GT tranny. You will need to confirm that however. You might want to check out www.celicatech.com.

QUOTE(lagos @ Jul 10, 2006 - 1:55 PM) i know your trying to do the right thing for your motor, but this is one of those times where you should just trust the guys who have had their swaps for a while and have done a ton of research into this.
what about teh 4g gt-s tranny?
one more question.. is going from auto to manual legal??? i was told its not plus what about the title saying auto?
there shouldn't be any problems. dont use a 4th gen tranny...get a sixth gen.

but will it work... ;p im trying to go cheap >smile.gif> and the tranny is already set up
All of the different gens of the S series trans are basically the same thing with different gearing anf final drives. 4th gens were all S series motors with S series trans. 5th gen GT/GTS will work... and then of course, 6th gen GT/GTS. S series FWD trans out of Camrys will work also...

BTW... 4th and 5th gens GT/GTS (4th gen ST included also) both used the S53... 6th gen GT uses S54 and Camry uses S51... all basically the same thing... all will bolt up to the engine... but there might be slightly different variations between the different years with shift brackets/linkages, speedo sensors, etc.
