Moving to California! - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #28811 12 posts Started by DropTopCelica
HI i live in Ohio right now and i own a 96 celica gt convertible. Everything was fine, but now im moving to California in two weeks. Ok I read somewhere that since my celi is a 96-99 made for out of california use or whatever, that it is illegal there. Well i was just wondering if this was true and if so if there is anything i can do about it. I need to know kinda soon since im leaveing. I really dont want to get it all the way to cali and find out i cant keep it there. So can somebody please help me out with this dilema?
Cali rocks man, you'll love it there! Anyway, I don't think that the Celica will be illegal there. I think that the emissions standards on the Cali-made Celi's were just a little bit more stringent. I highly doubt that you'll be illegal, but I may be wrong... BTW, what part of Cali you going to?

Thanks, Im moving to Rosemead LA right now to live with my aunt. And then im going to move in with my uncle that i think lives in alhambra, im not sure, but ill be in the LA area either way. thanks for the help, i really want to take my car with me!
If anyone else has any othere info please tell me more!
You should be fine, all you have to do is tell the DMV and just do the paperwork and your set. I think celis made for CA only have another cat in the header.
Not to scare you but if you move to Rosemead, you'll definitely need an alarm... real one fake one just a blinking red light doesn't matter, just to give'em no life kids a second thought before breaking into the car.

you'll be fine. only difference is when you go to a smog station they'll verify your car is from a different state and over look a few things like a egr and other useless smog crap. dont worry you'll be fine.

Thanks, i think might get my car shipped there then. Driving would take forever its like 2400 miles away so its like a 34 hour drive. Hmm idk, it would be a fun roadtrip though haha. but kinda boring if im alone. I guess i could meet a whole bunch of people on the way, haha still thinking bout it.
