The state is real screwed up and they're going to try to get as much money as possible for anything possible.

haha just wait till cars from other states come in....like i know a member or so with highly modified celicas are planning to go to cali and some other parts of the US next summer......make it a point to drive through there and laugh....
We have the same problems in Cyprus.
Lot of people modified their cars without upgrading their Brakes to bigger or suspension for improving handling and using their cars for street racing,of course many people died cuz of this and now police looking for modified cars and they impound more than 300 cars in 10 months!!!!
Most of the cars are hondas but if they see bigger wheels, stickers or your car is too lowered you are going for inspection!!!!!!!
Of course the problem is that cops does not have the knowledge to understand when a car its modified and not safe and they impound them.
What a shame for a goverment for not be able to measure the sound from exhaust system using accurate machines but using cops ears!!!
i love how they have a picture of a stock STI for that news story. this law is really unfair, because there is nothing illegal about buying none oem parts for your car. these days even toyota (scion) tried to make money by selling intakes, rims, bodykits along with their cars.

"extra gauges or racing stickers" ..... what does that have to do with street racing? just because i want to know my oil pressure, dosnt mean im going to drag race.

Crazy stuff.... I knw... Just the tricks of the trade I learned... LMAO

Ya. Cali is a bummer state sometimes. I admit. Thats why my daily driver is a 89 Volvo 240 dl. The only risk I have with it is bieng an obstruction to traffic cause I'm going to slow.

I'm so glad I pay taxes so they can do stupid crap like this instead of fixing the craters in the roads.
California is GAY.

i haven't noticed anything dramatically different
yikes we have it easy out here... no car inspections unless you're about to sell it, then you need to "safety" it. the only thing with modification to a car that wouldn't pass is if you lower it. everything else is fine
This really does suck a bunch for me, especially as i just got my turbo kit. I'll need to keep my car as stock looking as possible...
they did somethin like that here in toronto and the greater toronto area called pacer programe. To get the point across that modifying ur car is "bad" and "wrong". The police decided to soup up/rice out a 2001 civic SIR. It even had a greddy turbo kit. They said it was to chase down the faster cars at drag races. thing is though, there has been nights where the cops drivin it have taken part. I dunno, i think police cracking down on modifying imports is stupid. They admire modified classics/muscel cars, they fear bikers, yet are most intimidated by imports. Theres a guy who goes to the car show at my work on weekends who drives a 1600hp supercharged plymouth GTX with a 300shot of nitrous. Its street legal, but i mean its 1600hp, this guy runs 1/4 mile in like 8 seconds on pump gas. Ive seen this guy show up at drag races north of where i live. The police will not stop this guy even if they see him racing. Why? because they respect the fact he restored the car and did what he did to it. The guys runnin straight exhaust with 2 3 1/2inch glass pack straight mufflers. hez easily 3 times as loud as any import i know. cops wont pull him over. Yet if a civic with a loud exhaust drives by right after him, they will get the civic. It pisses me off that just because u drive an import u get profiled, yet there r bikers who are twice as loud as my celi at 5000rpm, and they actually cause dmg n stuff. I dunno, its anoying that ppl drivin and import with an exhaust system will get pulled over, but a guy drivin a muscel car twice as loud, and duin twice the speed we are.
Its like a generational thing, try and tell me those cops pulling you over werent doing the same exact damn thing when they were our age?

I think it has a bit to do with a generational thing, but there is also a logical reason for a greater crackdown on streetracing/speeding. I think it is reasonable for them to crack down on speedracing more so than they did 30 years ago because with more people on the roads and technological advancements, there are alot more people racing these days and their cars go alot faster. Which is not to say that older cars aren't fast, but these days most cars can easily go 120 mph. I do however believe that there is an unfair combination with different variations of profiling, whether it is age or race, with probable cause.

just my $.02

lol speaking of modified cars...i got pulled over this morning with 3 other full cars. Dumb cop thought we were racing. We were on our way to some "haunted preschool"...and its on mountain roads....and he thought we were racing?!?! wtf....and he kept on asking what i had modified to the front of the cat....I told him intake only, and other than that I have no clue because I just bought the car how it is. I hate the po.

Yeah, I hate the po. Wouldn't it be nice if one day, they would all just vanish? Then civilization would be left to it's own devices, chaos would insue amidst all the looting and murder, Back to the stone age! Before you go on claiming that you "hate" the police, you need to realize that they are a necessary evil. You need to respect them simply for the job that they do, because somewhere there's a cop raiding a crackhouse while you decide which body-kit would look sweet on your ride.

but what about the modified american muscle cars? ... this is why we need more young people in political office..so we can flip it on this pill popping little dick dick heads that want to make stupid laws.. and not worry about the real problems in this country .. or in there state .

[TeamNJCT
True, in any instance where a common vote is used in order to elect a politician, I will usually vote for a younger candidate(that agrees with my views of course). Of course there is always the problem with experience. Most positions of power take experience in a particular field, which of course takes time, which of course leads to older candidates pushing themselves into commanding positions. It's your country, take control of it. Some laws are unfair and need to be changed.

Did he look under the hood? I think that its totally a vialation of privacy if they do. A wing/stickers is not probable cause. That's like saying if someone has dredlocks the cops can pull them over and search the car because they probably have weed.
When I got my ticket a while ago the cop told me I was lucky that he didnt tow my car for all the illegal stuff done to it. All that was done was a muffler and it was lowered with rims. And the muffler isnt loud at all!!
