Engine trouble? - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #27609 5 posts Started by sn0wfr0g
Oi. So I love my Celica (97 GT Hatchback, automatic).

Recently I have noticed something that kind of concerns me. When I come to a stop it seems like after a little bit the car sort of downshifts.. Maybe thats not the right way to explain it... It almost feels like a small lurch, like it shakes the car a little bit.

It seems to happen more often when I have been running the ac and maintaining faster speeds.

I am at almost 130k on it with no previous service records. I have been told before that around 120k you are supposed to get timing redone? Is there anything else I should consider?

One of my friends said he thought it might have something to do with electrical.

I dont know if I am explaining this well at all.. Please let me know if there is more information or a better way I might go about trying to describe this problem.

I should mention this too: Once upon a time (like... 4 maybe 5 months ago?) I was bookin it down the highway, exited then pulled up to a light. When I stopped the car died - scared the piss out of me. It started back up right away but some concern arose. I checked all sorts of stuff and winded up finding out that the battery posts were just skanky. Like uber skanky. So i cleaned them off with a wire brush and some coke (which works really well BTW) and it has not died on me again.
tbelt should be done every 60k...@ 120+ id consiter doing the waterpump as well

Could be bad motor/tranny mounts...

Sounds to me like its either tranny mounts, or tranny filter needs to be replaced.
Thanks for all the feedback, I really appreciate it. Man yall are fast as hell too.

I think I am just gonna be on the hunt for a good mechanic here in Austin, Tx now. If anyone knows of someone in or around Austin who is reasonably priced and honest please let me know and I will bring them some business.
