took my car in - 6G Celicas Forums

ok ok, I took it to Toyota to get it looked at and they said it was the fuel pump had gone out. I told the lady that I would buy the part online since it was seriously 200 bones less than what they wanted at toyota world so, I have a new question, is there a part that is called the fuel pump sender? since my fuel gauge only goes halfway down and stops reading, she said that the fuel pump sender assembly would fix my car (which only cranks and doesnt start) and also the gas gauge.

I'd say it sounds like maybe you're fuel pump is burned out too. I'm not sure exactly how the fuel pump is wired to run, but the sending unit only has to do w/ telling you how much gas is in the tank, all the pump does is, well pump >smile.gif>

It does seem fishy to me however that they would both go out at the same time. It's possible that they are burned out, or something along those lines. You can always check the pump yourself pretty easily, just feed it 12volts, and see if it works. (do this away from the tank, sparks == very bad)

Once again, i'm not sure how everything is wired in there exactly, but it does seem a bit fishy to me.

maybe you should take it to a mechanic that you trust and get a second mechanix opinion

hmm, the toyota place i go to has never screwed us over before, my mother has been taking her camrys that she had to them for like 8 years and has never had a problem, only thing is is that they like to rape you on parts pricing. But IS there a part named fuel pump sender or is it just the fuel pump? the service lady wanted to make sure that i got the "fuel pump sender assembly"

Yeah, the fuel pump and the sender assembly arent 1 solid peice. I just dont see why a failure in the fuel pump sender would keep the car from starting...

ok so im going to assume by fuel sending unit you meant the fuel "ecu" which is a toyota/lexus thing that its a computer designed to run like 9v at a lower rpm to save a few years life on the fuel pump (all tuned cars just bypass this with the full 12v) my cousin's sc300 had this issue but his car would start intermitantly and once running wouldnt die so i say if you have this ecu bypass it (you dont need it) and replace the fuel pump. This should solve your problems if not atleast youll have new parts installed here.

good luck

I say check your assembly. The fuel pump is not too difficult to get to (you have to take out your back seats - see pic) and see if it is suck/jammed ect. You could probably pick up another pump from someone who has done a swap here in the B/S forum.

the fuel pump is in there >wink.gif>

4 screws takes off cover, 8-10 8mm bolts hold the assembly cover on, unplug the wire harness, disconnect a rubber hose and with a 14mm and a 19mm *I think 19* disconnect the main fuel line and remove FP and assembly.

yes, if you use a jumper wire in the dioagnostic box...I can't remember which 2 terminals to jump. Manny (presure2) knows...he will reply soon

I've got a Supra fuel pump if you need one. That should give you plenty of gas.
