car wont stay on - 6G Celicas Forums

car starts up but dies in like 2 seconds after fluttering rpm's. Since it starts, it shouldnt be the spark plug, what could it be? Sometimes i can push the gas in to keep the rpms up but sometimes pushing the gas has no effect.

sounds like you almost have what i got, the Idle air control valve needs to be replaced.
the check engine light comes on after it dies, but so does the oil light and battery light.

on the throttle body.... chances are u can just take it out and spray it with some carb cleaner.

good question, im gonna pick it up at lunch, hope my manual has pics of it and how to install.
ok, now the car does the same thing, it starts up stays one for five seconds than dies. If I try to give it gas, the car just dies instantly.

make sure the butterfly valve is still connected. my g/f's fell off and did that. the valve conected to the turbo shooting off to the right of the engine.
does one need to take out entire throttle body to change out the valve?
check ur sensors - could be linked to the MAP or MAF sensor - I had same problem a while back -- if it is the sensor - go to junkyard - that thing cost like over $200 for new one -- one little small piece of
well, i just tried it again and now it wont even start up.

How's the weather were you live? Is this a recent problem? I just got vapor lock and I don't think it's gonna be warm enough to start for several days.

Does it stay on after it's warmed up? I've got the same problem with mine, but only when the engine is cold. If I rev it up to about 4000-5000RPMs and let it drop, most of the time it will start to idle, although usually low, around 800, even though it's not warmed up yet.

I was thinking it could be the EGR being dirty, since it's fine after I stomp on it, I think that's warming up the engine enough that the EGR being clogged doesn't affect the cold idle...
Where is the IAC? Pictures?
