anyone in san diego spring instill - 6G Celicas Forums
They're not that bad. Really, the most specialized tools you need are a MacPherson strut spring compressor (rent or buy at about US$30) and a good torque wrench (10-230 ft-lbs).
Other than the difficulty in breaking the bolts loose between the struts and the knuckle, I could have done it by myself (well, if I hadn't split my thumb open that morning).
I found the Haynes guide to spring removal and install helpful, as was http://www.turbomr2.com/MR2/HowTo/Suspensi...ringStrut-1.HTM
The only difference between that and our cars is the number of rebuildable struts -- they have four, we have two.

you dont need a spring compressor, just watch your eye as you take the top bolt off!!
I actually saw someone try this approach only worse. He actually held it between his legs on one. It almost got him. On the second he put one end up against the wall and stood on the other end taking the bolt off. He definately liked the second approach much more.LOL

I did mine, I can give you advice, but I wouldn't want to go solo on someone else's car... plus I borrowed some tools.
I strongly recommend replacing the struts while you're down there. What kind of springs did you get?
