has anyone ever unlocked their usdm 5sfe ecu all the way to the actual 170hp it's suppose to have or would you need better cooling for the engine so it would keep steady?

LOL, who told you the ECU could be "unlocked" to gain 35 horsepower? Even with a top-of-the-line standalone unit, there's no way you'd get 35 horsepower on a stock motor.

well i thought that since the 5sfe is suppose to have 170hp stock, i thought that the ecu would be the one to hold it back from all the hp cuz the japanese have to water everything down when they bring it over lol, idk, guess i heard wrong, thanx anyways.

Maybe you're confusing the 177hp 3S-GE that's found overseas with the 5S-FE. >>

maybe not 170 hp but i think with a standalone.. you could get 10 -15 hp with no problem ... change things like injectors .. pistions/rods.... I/E and you can get the 170 and more.... but thats just what i think.....

i unlocked mine! i had to use something called a "clip", and it came with a new ecu and some other stuff... it works great, but goes pshhhhh every time i shift, so maybe that means i broke it ? >>
