just on my way home from work and this guy pulls up at the light next to me and revs his engine. i do the same and then it turns green, i have my overdrive turned off and its down hill. i hit the gas and nothing, my car just sits there for a sec and then slowly starts to move. this guys car made a clank sound and then squeeled off. it sounded like he started in 2nd gear or skipped a gear. it sounded bad. but he took off like a bat out of hell while i was far behind with everybody else. he slowed down a ways up and flashed me. damn my cars a slow piece. i'll be selling both of my celicas soon. im tired of looking fancy but having nothing to back it up with.

says u have 2 cars... were u driving ur auto st or auto gt - turbo? i dont get it doesnt the 5sfte produce 180 hp... roughly (well manny's was 196 and thats a great setup)

the 1/4 doesnt have patience for a ST.... so we make them ST-T's so atleast we'll sound good going slow.

Stick=GG off the line if you can drive
Auto=evens out if properly tuned by second gear

After second, race is even since manual can shift at redline or max HP (whatever ur style) and auto will shift at same point, depending how you progged it

what happens in an auto if u put it in neutral rev it up really high then pull the shifter straight back into 2nd gear? does the power transfer into the gear or does the car wait for rpms to drop back down?

a friend with a maxima does it all the time and beats v6 mustangs left and right...its justl ike popping the clutch ecept theres a slight delay before it actually kicks into gear so u have to overrev it to say 7 so when it kicks it in comes in a t like 5-6 and u peel out

I dont think thats true. I dont know about supras, but as far as celica st auto vs. celica st manual goes, the manual has a few seconds on the auto.

when your putting out some pretty good numbers an automatic can be better. Think about it, you can misshift, an auto doesnt. Also autos are much quicker shifting then human shifting

maybe you shouldn't be racing a 140 hp manual with your 105 hp automatic. in fact neither of those cars should be drag racing because they are not at all fast. you obviously have some misconceptions about speed and what your car can do, you're only setting yourself up for disappointment. my 2 cents

Thats only true if your car is turboed because you dont loose as much boost between shifts.

If your tranny is strong enough and you're in the 10 second in the 1/4 mile then the auto is better, but anything in the 11's, 12's and higher autotragic is much slower. . in my 240 it's a 16.9 instead of a 16.1 if you have a 5 speed, and around the same goes with the celica, much slower if automatic. Rational behind the auto=faster is shifting must be immediate, and perfect, and it lets the turbo still be spooling so you don't lost power.

I'm talking turbos engines. 'cause he said he had a turboed one earlier. And it doesnt have to be a 10 sec car. It could be a 15 sec car. If you know how to drag. You can launch off the line harder and like you said in the last sentence it keeps the turbo in its powerband better. You can mess up your shifting in a 5spd and nobody can shift as good as a set machine, sorry.

What i'm curious about... what difference does it make if he grinded his tranny or not? Really...

Anyhow... of course and Auto ST is gonna get smoked by an Integra. I don't even know why you'd want to state the obvious.

As for AUTO vs. Manual... lol... the ONLY time an automatic tranny may have a slight edge is when BIG BIG boost is involved. Little boost (up to 1 bar) doesn't count, because little boost doesn't lag so much. The reason is simple... auto trannies feel constant load, so boost lag is minimized in an automatic car. I believe turbos were originally designed to work for auto cars... but either way, as far as slightly modded cars go... manual is better than auto 98% of the time... Only exception... BIG BIG boost.

Dont know where all this complete and utter BS comes from that Auto`s are faster than manuals, having driven both an auto Supra and a manual one, without a shadow of a doubt the manual was quicker. If someone tells you that their auto is quicker on a `like for like` car, then it just means they cant drive a manual car, and are living in a vain attempt to convince themselves that thier complete lack of driving skill is not thier own fault, thats why you see lots of automatic ferrari`s....not!!!. Auto`s are good for BMW drivers, old people, and getting your Pizza home without it sliding off the seat (you can hold it down with your incapable `free` hand that is lamely hanging by your side wishing it had a gear stick to use).

yes our cars are very slow, I never race my celica becuase I know i'm going to loose. I only raced the celica once against a 97 eclipse from about a 20mph, we were even till we hit 4th gear then he started pulling on me >> . then I went home got my r/t and smoke the f@#K outta the same eclipse >> , payback was sooooo sweeeettttttt >> . and yes automatics are way slower than a 5 speed.

I raced a 97 turbo eclipse(auto) and a civic SI(manual) and I smoked both of them with my r/t.

odds are it wasnt a 195 HP type-R...my bet is if it pulled that quickly on you, it was a 170 HP GS-R with that V-TEC...
