unless you turbocharge your celica and run the factory exhaust and cat. a cut out wont do anything but make the car annoyingly loud and kill power

yup thats exactly my plan that lil butterfly valve is goin to allow me to keep stock cat and exhaust but still kick a nice high psi turbo (ebc will run low boost for when its shut and high when its open)
and it will decrease spool time so i'll get better numbers since i will place it on the dp and that way the gases cmoe straight out the DP and don't have to go the full length of the car making a better spool time >>

my boy has that on his 240 its nice, he's got sr swap and full sleeper even running stock exhuast after his 3 inch downpipe and cutout.

alright, that is just about the coolest thing i've ever seen, i'm buying one, i don't care too much about the performance aspect of it, i'm more intrested in the sound, that is just amazing!

put it on after your cat if your goin to run full stock exhaust
that way you still have enough backpressure

stupid question but what would happen / be the problem with very low backpressure? (ie. if i put the cutout before the cat)

what would be cool is have that on the intake pipe to bypass the turbo and intercooler piping so the car will not have boost lag.

Once the turbo spools.. the intake valve closes and the exhaust valve opens.

that probably isn't efficient

Why the hell would you want backpressure? This is such a horrible myth it needs to stop. Backpressure is not something you want.

I dont get what your trying to say here...how do you bypass the turbo and expect any power? I think im missing something. If the exhaust is closed, your turbo cant spool, and your car will probably explode.

on an NA motor you do actually want some back pressure other wise your powerband shifts entirely and you lose a good chunk of it...

turbo motor you don't want any

heres the problem, your termanology is incorrect backpresure isn't the word to use dan. I don't know wut it is but i clearly remmeber a post back in the day by either kwanza or Spedtoe (evilspeed) explaining everything perfectly.

I was just looking on their website, it's too bad their systems won't fit out exhausts

is there any way to modify our exhausts to make those cutouts fit? >>

You need interia to keep the engine running... not backpressure. The best exhaust is no exhaust... unfortunately the header is part of the exhaust, and that's the only part that affects intertia, and that gets all confused with backpressure.

What I mean was.. to have one of those valve right next to the throttle body with a filter connected to it.. So when there is no boost. The valve will be open and the engine will suck air through the open valve and filter.

When boost starts... the valve closes and the presurized air is allowed in to the engine.

You don't want backpressure with an NA car or a turbo car- you want to have an effect called "gas scavenging" which basically means the gas particles are close enough to one another to latch on- and pull each other out of the exhaust. If the exhaust is too large and the the particles are too spread out, you won't have gas scavenging and you'll loose some exhaust velocity as the particles are no longer pulling each other out.

For the record, this will have no effect on spool time.

Dug this up since it was on the last podcast and it piqued my interest. Does anyone have a picture of this on their car? I'm curious to get a full visual so I can see how the flow would be. Does the valve cover up the straight pipe exhaust portion or the regular cat/muffler side of the exhaust?

It seems the way it's set up is not 100% ideal once the valve is open/closed as there would be exhaust either going by the valve in one instance, or getting caught (albeit just a little bit) in the other with the valve closed.
