Turbonator - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #24482 13 posts Started by Scott
if any of you have noticed, one of the ads at the top of the 6gc homepage is for the turbonator. Their website says it is some kind of non-moving vortex generator that increases gas mileage and hp. Do any of you have any experience with this? Is it a scam, does it work or is it a waste of money? Do any members have it installed?

Thanks.
You said it, SCAM/Waste of money.. dont even think about it
wuhukf has a tornado and says it helps a little.
I watched a dyno run on 'two guys garage' and it did make fair power considering... Made more than the groundwires everybody talks about. >wink.gif>

I hear it does increase gas mileage though.

I am not saying the thing works... sounds like a scam, and you know that little piece of metal didn't cost them $80....

If they were $20 or so... I'd pick one up to try. As it is... My money is better wasted elsewhere.

damnit, i wish i knew about this before i spent all that money on my swap!

Same as "tornado fuel saver" on tv. they claim hp gains, but I'd like to hear from someone who has tried it.
I have one I did not notice a difference I just assum its doing something. It actually doesnt move or anything. It just vents that make the air spin around in your intake. Its supposed to get more air in your cylinders.
i intended to try it when i had my ST. but heard too many negative comments bout it like it's a POS.... so nvr got it...

This thing just get posted every now an then, doens't it? Oh well. I never mind the reposts like other people do. I knew a guy who had one of these, and he thought it was awsome. He said he got a lot of gain from it. Then again, he was kind of a ricer. I raced him with my almost stock GT, and beat him pretty good. Oh, he was driving an older "94" I think, Escort GT. If the thing did much, I think he should have beat me.

It's a cheap knock-off of the Vortec head design, except you will not get the gains of the Vortec and the Vortec is a GM only product sometimes called E-Tec or Ecotec based on the vehicle it's in.
More power is made my more air n fuel. So if you're moving more air, you should be getting more fuel and more power. So that means gas mileage would go down.

All it does is cause the air to swirl making a tornado type effect, problem is by the time the air reaches the chamber the speed of the air has slowed and the valve closing causes it to stop swirling, it's supposed to cause better atomization, the Vortec design has the swirl in the intake port prior to entering the valve so that when the valve opens it causes the tornado effect. These things don't build pressure and are very ineffective at maintaining high atomization, good for the flea market but they don't do anything but make the air twist a little.
