Is it really that hard to change your fuel filter??? My mechanic said you have to like almost remove the engine to get to it cause its buried in there. I really wanna do this myself to save the 90 dollars in labor costs... Where exactly is the fuel filter, and is it easy to get to?

you might want to start looking for a new mechanic because apparently your current one is incompetant
the fuel filter is located toward the firewall to the right-hand side. its a smallish black cylinder, you can't miss it. as for changing it yourself, go for it. the fittings can be a pain due to the angle you're working but its worth a shot

maby if you have a stock air intake, that might be in the way, but thats about it.

get a line wrench that fits that bottom fitting, otherwise it's easy to round it out. A pneumatic ratchet works well for the top, especially if you're changing it for the first time. (Mine was way too freakin' tight...)
i changed mine with no special tools or removing engine. just had to take out intake. pain in the ass though.
GO back to ur chop shop guy.. and smack him in the nuts... then kick him in the teeth... then remove ur intake box.. and get a combo wrench and socket set .. and remove it ur self.. just be carful .. remove it lines while its still held to the engine bay .

Be careful with the bottom fitting, When i attempted to do mine, i bent and twisted the fuel line. But its is to get to it, just remove the air filter.
your mechanic is a moron, he was willing to pull out your engine to change the fuel filter? and on top of that he only was gonna charge $90?
Just be careful on the bottem.... isnt it reversely threaded. Mine was such a bitch to get out, put a bucket under it for spilt gas or work on cement... You dont want to ruin asphault.

just make sure you un-compress the fuel pressure by opening the fuel cap....had bad expierences.... >

open the gas cap, pull the efi fuse, and crank the motor over a few times to get rid of the extra fuel in the lines. have a few rags handy for the fuel that will leak out.

I have 250k on mine, and I've changed it once (it was the original filter). I'm about to do it again, but I think every 30k is way too excessive. I don't remember it being reverse thread. Just look at the new one to find out.

i was going to replace my fuel filter and went to go get it from toyota and the parts guy said toyota doesnt recomend because its a life time filter and its factory sealed and pressured.

just FYI..
my parents old car was a toyota cresida.. The fuel filter was mounted on the rear engine mount.. to change it, you need to either scrap up your hands to and fuel all over your face to remove it. OR you can take out the engine to change it. That was why my mechanic changed the fuel filter for free when they rebuilt the motor..
