ya... factory compression is around 150-160ish... though there are many factors that could contribute to the low compression test such as: obviously my different compression ratio, engine temp, and the way the test was performed. reguardless the owner at godspeed (used to own an alltrac, knows the engine very well) said it was performing very well and was not having any problems.

yeah, thats what i thought, i figured with the thinner HG and the slightly higher CR pistons that the compression test would yield much higher numbers

you're right, it was probably cold, or they didnt crank it that much.

i have heard of Godspeed's work, i would pretty much trust everything they say.

ya, godspeed was originally an online parts supplier for WRX specific products. the owner dan was originally an Alltrac guy, but never designed and distributed any alltrac/3sgte products to my knowledge. basically his feeling was if i want i can run more boost, however i really dont need to since my car is not being built to be a dyno queen... rather a nice balanced vehicle for autocrossing

on a side note 23 hours left to make a guess >smile.gif>

Tim - end the suspense! What did you dyno????

258 hp .. pm me for the addy to send nfs2
welp, no one wins the NFSU2 game unfortunatly.

the winner is JGreening with a guess of 219 HP. Congratulations... as for your prize i am picking up the car on friday and will get a copy of the dyno and i also have 2 autocrosses the weekend of may 7th, so i will be sure to get some pictures and have one professionally enlarged for you >smile.gif>

the verdict is 197 WHP, i dont have the chart yet to see what the torque was.

basically theres a few things this means, and its not too far off from what i expected. i was expecting around 215-220HP because nothing is really tuned on it, and especially after hearing my odd compression numbers. I am really left questioning if there are other things done to my motor that i am not aware about. I was discussing this yesterday with supersprynt, and i am left wondering if i really am running factory rods as i was told, or if i am running shorter rods or possably some type of altered or aftermarket crank to shorten the stroke, the engine is extremely healthy yet im running a very low compression with mods that should supposedly raise compression... i may also be having some unwanted cam overlap, possably due to a timing issue... or might even have aftermarket cams all togeather... since all the cylinders are even, i highly doubt its anything as far as leakage from valves or anything in that nature. another possability could be the piston rings used. like i told super im going to have to go through all my receipts from the motor rebuild that i have and see if anything in there reveals why my comp is low. Reguardless this motor was built for ALOT more boost than i have been feeding it and alot more than a CT20b can provide. so now i know the direction this motor needs to go and my original plan to build off the CT20b turbo and mild platform upgrades is out the window. she needs something bigger >biggrin.gif>

Thats about 230hp. That seems low for 14psi especially on a CT20b, and then you have alot of other mods...I was really expecting much higher.

MyFlickrMyeBay_Perpetual Aperture_
yupp theres definatly something i/we/the car is missing... dan said the FPR charts looked as expected... very rich in the high RPMs... right now im betting the compression is a tell tale sign of what is up.

Yeah I say your definately lacking in the power department, with the mods you have, I guess 240 at the wheels...

MyFlickrMyeBay_Perpetual Aperture_
wow man, that is extremely low for the ct20b and those mods.......ct-26's w/ boost turned up and intake, exhaust and afew other things should be at the level ur at now lol. Bigger turbo time though eh? >tongue.gif>

White 93 Mr2 Turbointake, exhaust, and stuff
ha ha all you guys that though 250whp and above when it comes to dyno numbers there always lower than expected.

the worse thing i hate though is people that put mods on there car
ex. a civic dx non vtec that have intake and a cat back saying they have 150 to the ground

not many people get the hole crank power and wheel power either

myself spending a fair amount of time on the dyno dont go in expecting much. But a 5 horse power increase to the wheels is a big thing to me.

yea your 3sgte is cool but ill stick to my 7agte
yea... i expected to watch everyone guess high >tongue.gif> you have to realize alot of those "this mod gives you XX WHP" and shows you a dyno chart 9 times out of 10 has atleast some basic tuning done to it as well, also, alot of those mods raise boost levels by allowing the air to move more freely, when you run @ 15 psi before and 15 psi after a mod, you dont really gain all the HP the dyno chart the supplying company shows.

exactly ^^ but i like reading the power pages when they add stuff like cam etc
but they dont highlight the fact that they do a few hours of tuning after the install before showing the numbers >wink.gif> but i hope you get into the 220whp with some tuning time

yea your 3sgte is cool but ill stick to my 7agte
yeah, but still I would think you would put out more than 220whp w/ ur mods. But that's just my .02

you never know how much power you can get from tuning could be 15whp or even 30 whp

but i also though it would be closer to the 220whp+ range i think the compression is the factor might be something else to

yea your 3sgte is cool but ill stick to my 7agte
yupp, thats what im going to find out... i talked to dan some more today and he believes a portion of it could be the turbo building boost so fast that the ECU cant switch from open to closed loop fast enough.

Good luck with the tuning Tim. Your results are lower than I expected but it sounds like you got some ideas to make it a little better. BTW, what do I win?

a copy of the dyno graph chart and an 8.5X11 autocross picture which will be taken next weekend at either our kettering event or the Detroit-SCCA event >smile.gif>, if the HP number had been guessed dead on, then you would have won a copy of NFS:U2 for PS2.

as for another update i picked up the car today and talked with dan some more. he helped me out with a few ideas and it looks like i will first be getting a new Greddy boost gauge (autometer gauges = teh suck), a new IC (possably a GT-4 WAIC... or a Greddy SMIC if i have less incentive than to take on the WAIC project), and a hydra-nemesis EMS system which will be installed and tuned by him... that right there should put me around the 260-265ish range, and after upgrading fuel components and raising boost, i should be flirting with the 300 mark after more tuning.

after finally being able to see my graphs, i made 197.8 HP and 215.4 Ft. Lbs. the HP number would have been larger had i not had a very rich condition at approx. 4250-4750 RPM. equates to about a 15 HP loss total that could be regained through a SAFC-II and a FPR... right now i dont think the 15 HP is worth the cash instead im just going to save up for the new IC and EMS and regain that HP that way.

Good plan on the EMS. I am getting one as well.

As for the prizes, I don't have a PS2 anyway (or time to play ftm). Just post the dyno chart and that will be good enough for that. As for the picture, I will take a 8 x 10 color glossy of something hot at the event besides a car....surprise me. >biggrin.gif>

EMS all the way

tuning makes all the difference

btw, why not a TMIC(trunk mount IC) >wink.gif>

trunk mounts are overrated >wink.gif>

and why lose the little storage you have lol

im not gonna bother guessing but could I have the underground 2? lol

ya, GT4 WAIC is the only way to fly >smile.gif>

and im not exactly sure what you would like to see in the picture j, its a SCCA event, its not like a HIN or any dirty show like that.
