Is this possible? - 6G Celicas Forums

Ok so I'm talkin to some friends in Alabama and this girl says this...

it's a dodge neon (not very fast stock)...ummm....intake, exhaust, rebuilt engine, pressed and shaved pistons, shaved/rebuilt head, cam work, 65 mm throttle body, short shifter, 50 % over clutch..... and that's about it

He hasn't lost yet and his brother's 5.0 Mustang barely stays with it. the other night at the track for the eight mile, he ran a 9.9 sec flat. he ran low 16's at a quarter mile at a 118 mph.
Someone tell me i'm not a dumbass by not believeing this ^. I laughed and she got pissed..... I know I'm not too smart but come on... Is this believeable???
A 5.0 Stang will do the 1/4 in the 14's as far as i know.
My friends can run the 1/4 mile in a Camry at high 13's and are at about 100mph, so how the hell are they getting 118mph from runing 16's????
possible for her to run a 16 w/ that kind of work. now whats done to the camry to run high 13s? and most 5.0 GTs run in the 15s quarter mile range.

Actually, Camry Solara. 1MZ-FE Superchared to 6psi, custom y-pipe exhaust. And other stuff that i am not sure of. My goal is to build a low 13's/high 12's Camry Daily Driver
lol, i dont see whats so hard to believe about it, but the stang person sucks because they haven't done anything right...

But you ain't gonna hit 118mph running in the low 16's My car stock runs like 16.5 I think, and it ain't gonna touch 100MPH

also, no offense, its a girl and she may have screwed up the numbers....or forgot what it really was and said something she thought was high.
the fact she "beats 5.0 stangs" and 118 mph and yeah its a damn neon

so if the engine work she claims is done is done then she could very likely run a 16.

16s are not really that fast.
16's are believable
If the car is running 16's at 118 mph, that is one TERRIBLE 60' time. I call BS.

QUOTE(lagos @ Jul 10, 2006 - 1:55 PM) i know your trying to do the right thing for your motor, but this is one of those times where you should just trust the guys who have had their swaps for a while and have done a ton of research into this.
If you are running the 1/4 mile at 118 miles an hour you are going to be in the mid to low 13's not in the 16's.

Edit: sorry I meant 12's

My drag truck ran 14.9 at 97mph in the quarter and 9.6 at 72 mph in the 1/8th. The E.T.s are believable for a 180+ hp Neon but the trap speed is way to high, sounds like my friends "B18 Turbo" 4 door Accord with 400+ horsepower running high 8's in the quarter. They're just blowing smoke.

Also a Neon running 16's would get beat by a 5.0 unless it was some beater LX that had a sorry driver.

unless she forgot she had naaawwwwzzz and pushed the button really late, u never know >smile.gif>

the 1/4 doesnt have patience for a ST.... so we make them ST-T's so atleast we'll sound good going slow.
Yes because 'nawz' is going to push you from 80 MPH to 118 in just a couple of seconds in a Neon. >tongue.gif>
hahah yeah nawz solves all!!!! I'll call BS too.... thanks guys
I head that neons can be fixed up to be really fast with a relativly low amout of work and money however a 16 sec car is not fast, and 118 mph 1/4 speed is pretty good, so there is some kinda of bs going on, I suppose if you could not shift for your life you could get a 16 at 118 mph, but then if you did know how to **** your times would be far better. but yeah realisticly if its got NOWZ then yeah wait till last min to blow and you could get a fast speed with a slow time, Or sit and burn at the line for a long time before getting any traction then take off and get up to speed to recover some time, or just have really bad reaction time to the light, like if you where retarted.
that trap and time is bs

i think u all are being decived here...the neon is powered by a 420a dohc engine..the very same engine thats in the 95-99 mitsu eclipse rs,gt,and gs modles..i own a gs eclipse, and have seen engine work done on them....low 16's would be about right...however the 118mph doesn't sound just...from my experience it seems like she would be running 90-100mph in the 1/4...but yeah, neons can be very very fast if you do them up right...they get bashed on, but when people find out that some eclipses have the same engine, then they give alil more credit, i know i sure as hell did

Now SR powered
That's because the 420A is a Chrysler engine and not a true Mitsubishi engine, i've run them all; Neon, Talon ESi, and Eclipse GS/RS and with good conditions for both cars the Celica ST204 will win. Everyone that I ran had an intake and exhaust, so do I so we are pretty even as far as mods. Don't get me wrong it wasn't like I beat them by a mile, but I did beat them by a number of car lengths.
