Well time for another computer problem that chances are no one can help me with.

First, let me start off that I bought the first season of Beast Wars: Transformers today. And oh boy its great. Go Dinobot. Aside from that.

I also bought a longer S-video cable, a 12 footer. Connected up the puter and the good ol 27" Apex (cheapie) TV. I finally played hide and seek with my Windows standard settings and got the SOB to run clone mode. Ended up installing my ATI standard drivers. However, (the big but!!!) I only get black and white. No color on the TV. The computer looks great, tv is in black and white. I then gave'r the good ol Google search. I only came to 105,000 responses, all of which are stupid and didn't give me any info.

I get video - no color
and I just did a SCAN on the TV to see if that worked - nope

try wiggling the s video cable. it could be the cable is so long that it is bending where it plugs into the TV.

try unpluging it and plug it in and holding it.

did that, its a straight shot the the tv and I already tired the unplug thing. Blah this sucks

Did you try configure the video card to output NTSC signals rather than standard VGA signals that the graphic card may output?

I'm sure that there is a setting somewhere that you need to change. I have an ATI, but I've never tryed to plug into a TV before. Go to the ATI site and look it up there, and if you can't find it, send them an email, it will get fixed.

Wow your old TV supports S-Video input? Or is your S-Video cable a S-Video to Composite cable adapter?

I'm not sure why it's only displaying black and white images. An ATi 9200 should have no problem with the S-Video out. Is it your TV setting?

try display settings/settings/makesureitson2screens/advanced - check the adapter then its settings you might try jacking w/ the color management or make sure the windows default isnt still on really low res&color.. just do the simple things first connections then auxillaries hard then soft. hope ya figure it out man good luck!!

hmm, i have never heard of that problem, change your setting from clone to monitor/tv and make sure to set the resolution way down for the tv, but that should not affect the color.

do you ahve a s-video conector in the tv its self or do you have an rf modulator (what I use to convert s-video to a standard cable signal and add the sound into the cable to so i only connect the one cable) there avalible at radioshack or online for about $10. I bet that with your apex (cheapo) tv the s-video imput sux and cant figure out the color right or something. and be sure that your s-video cable is good, and all the pins on both sides are going in straight and all the way. because that would do it.

I actualy have a 9200 se (I upgraded a wile ago) but I never seemed to have a problem using the RF modulator to get the tv to work, I did however cook the card many times (its just got that little heat sink that is not very good) the bigest problem I had was making sure to set up the acceleration to full in order to force it to send a full signal over to the tv, so i could get things in mediaplayer to display on the tv and not just a black screen.

ok, update for you helpers

TV is brand new. Its a cheapie, but its brand new. I'm running direct S-Video to S-Video. (and tom, thats been out for quite a while ??? My Wega has DVI-In.) All my settings are ok. I've used this same card before on another pc and it works. So far the only thing that keeps repeating itself on the net is "change your wires." Maybe my 12ft S is too long and maybe the TV is too cheap. I'll play around. Keep the ideas coming guys.

I believe your S-Video port on your 9200 is a 7-pin (My 9600 is a 7-pin). If your S-Video cable is a 4-pin, you might be missing something. S-Video's got 2 composite signals, one Y, one C. Y signal transfers black and white colors (luminance) and the C signal transfers colors (chrominance). Also, does your TV has a SCART input? I found an article on ATi knowledge base regarding S-Video / SCART issue.

To my understanding, SCART is a Euro thing. Both S-Video are 7-pin. Color has worked on other TV's with similar setups with the same card. I knowing, because my computer is a twin. I built the other for my best friend Jake. And Jake had his computer hooked up to my tv for movies quite a few times. However, it was a different machine, and different TV. Sony WEGA flat screen. I'd just try it on there except for both TV's are 27" and heavy as hell and my bedroom is upstairs. Blah.
