well, I've seen rivits used, and thats fine, unless they're on the exterior of the car(i.e. not the wheel well) but, if you're installing it yourself, you could prolly get away with using some 3m tape with basically anytype of screws inside the well. But it also matters which kit you're installing

I would say get some small/med size metal self taping screws. I have not done one yet, but thats what i am plkanning to use. Also might try spraying some rusty profin on there too.
the bodyshop i went to used rivets.

I used stainless steel sheet metal screws. They look good and don't rust, and are designed to go into metal. The head of the screw is also nice because it tapers inward, like an upside down triangle. If you countersink (make the hole wide at the top and narrow at the bottom) the holes you drill for the screws, then the screws will be flush with the kit and not be noticable which is very nice.

As far as rivots go... eh, I've seen em on kits before and I don't recommend using them. It's very easy to apply to much pressure when you put them on and crack the kit. And you'd have to by a rivot gun to put em on, and they're noticable. Hope all this helps!

i used industrial duct tape to help me center everything. I used good old home depot 10 mm bolts that bolt into existing holes.
