BIG PROBLEM PLEASE HELP - 6G Celicas Forums

so I was driving my car and went to get up on it so I punched the gas and my rpm's shot up to 4500 and stayed their until my speed caught up with the rpm's so I put it in a higher gear and the car should have had a problem picking up speed and the rpms should have stayed low but they shot back up to 4500 when I gave it gas not sure what the problem please help...with ideas
kinda sounds like sumthing is slipping and not grabbing. clutch maybe?
when mine was slipping it shot straight to rev limiter so iunno.

Hmm, I do this on purpose when it's raining...
sounds like a clutch job, ehh well theres a few things that'll make ur car do that... like check ur gas filter and gas pump, but most likely ur looking at doing a clutch and flywheel job pretty soon. 400 dollars if u do it urself... 1000 ish if u get a professional do it.

the 1/4 doesnt have patience for a ST.... so we make them ST-T's so atleast we'll sound good going slow.
so what should I go with as far as a new clutch and flywheel...something better than the stock one thats in there any suggestions.
um stage 2 clutch, and lightened flywheel maybe. its pretty much useless unless if u race all the time. i race so little that i didnt even bother... maybe like once every 3 months. lol

Just get the stock clutch you have the st after all and unless you have a turbo just get the oem clutch.

its cause we don't make enough power to push our wheels so the clutch keeps slipping >frown.gif> >frown.gif> >frown.gif>

so what i'm doing is just a normal clutch set from advanced auto
with a machined flywheel to lighten up the rotating mass...
that should be enough

No its because your clutch is worn out so its slipping nothing to do with power.

Also no offense but it is a stupid idea to machine your flywheel to lighten it up, its dangerous and your flywheel could explode causing serious engine damage and I mean serious it will look like a bomb went off in you engine bay or bodily harm or death. I know it sound like I got that from a warning label but its true. If you want a lighter flywheel which is not the best for street driving buy one that is manufactured to be light.
awwwwww man i remmember when mine was slipping i couldnt bare the smell!!!!!!!! like rotten eggs mixed with cow sh$%.im pretty sure you need a new clutch bud...
wiles it probilby the clutch there are other things that could cause that, 4500 is an odd rpm to "shoot up too" unless your not holding the gas much, when my clutch went out on my old accord (back in the day) the smell was not so bad, but it did not grab for anything, you would have to just barly let it out very low rpms to get it to grab then if you gave it to much gas to fast you lost it and boom your coasting.

could be a tranny problem, grinded out a grear or all of them, or the linkage from the tanny to axels. but i bet its your cluch

if you look at his profile he only had 48k when he bought it so now he prab has like 55k on it. i dont think its a gear prablem.
or he could be a new driver and could be his first manual car and he coulda just roasted his clutch.... yeah.

that would be my guess. lol same thing happened to me burned my clutch quite fast.
its a clutch slipping...just replace the clutch and it will be fixed
