3s-gte Engine Swap - 6G Celicas Forums

Hey, after reading a ton of info on doing a 3s-gte engine swap, and trying to decide if I really want to do this or just stick with my stock GT engine. Well, I've finally decided that I want to do the engine swap. However, my main problem is I live in **** hole town and no one here knows anything about cars and seeing as how I'm not the most knowledgable person when it comes to cars either, I would really like to find a shop or someone who can do it for me. The swap seems like a lot of hard work so I'm looking for a shop to do the swap for me, perferably one in the South West, like California, or Arizona. If anyone knows a good place that's dependable, let me know. Thanks
I also have another question. I found a clip for sale, but when I was reading about it, I realized that it was for a RHD celica. Will a JDM engine for a RHD hook straight up to a LHD celica? Or do I have to try and find a LHD JDM swap?
to answer your ? first yes it will bolt up and second there are shops in so cal that can do the swap ... depends on how much your willing to pay...

It seems to be the overall opinion that when you buy a clip, you should try to get an all-trac clip. Most of the 3s-gte clips I've found were for a mr2 which has a rear engine, so would this not work? Would I need to find a front clip for a, say, 93 Celica All-Trac? What, in your opinion, is the best generation? Or is there even a difference? I guess, which is the easiest? Money isn't really that big of an issue right now, so could you maybe suggest a shop of So Cal that would be the best choice? Twenty freakin question here.
mr2 clips should work fine.

An mr2 clip should be better, cause the tranny can be slightly modded to work, which will give you a proper trany for it. I know the whole thing about both trannys worht, but id say use an mr-2 if you can.
problem with the mr2 clip is that the mr2 harness is not the same....so good luck with that. you have to relocate the altinator to the front of the motor, modifiy the dip stick, etc.. get an st185 clip and make your life easy

Also to make the mr2 tranny work you need the st185 tranny. Or at least according to the how to I saw.
yeah wiring is the real issure here... anybody can put the engine in. Get an alltrac clip and will be a whole lot easier for you and the person doing your swap.
So an ST 185 clip would be the easiest to use in doing to swap? Now, my next question would be other than the full clip, what would I need to buy before doing the swap? I guess, also, what specifications would I need on the clip, like, what is required for the swap that the clip should include?
Yeah Kinda sucks that not many people have done the MR2 to celica swap. When I undertake Mine this summer Ill document the wiring part. Where the MR2 and Celica differes in wiring is that is uses 2 fuse boxes while the celica only runs 1, then also the Dipstick and I wasnt sure about the alternator but mabey.

If you have the time and money try the MR2 if not go Alltrac, and if you could get a 6th gen RHD clip, just get that welded to your car, there are alot of nay sayers but its been done.

It doesn't seem at all safe to weld two cars together...particularly one braced for AWD and one that's not.

Oh, your welding two cars together? Yeah, that's risky. We do it with trucks sometimes around here though, but trucks don't usually go to fast.
