Topic #21187 17 posts Started by juBz86
ok so as the topic says. i'm having trouble with my vert. i cant open it electicly only manually. one side seems to be working fine but the otherside doesnt open or close making the whole thing not work.
if its down it wont even move but i hear the motor working. and when it closed it works sometimes. what could be the problem?? the hinges??
Naw, ur motors dead. I could "hear" mine working too. It's gears are shot, or whatever. But you need a new motor for that side

300 bucks
wat about install? can i do it myself or do i have to take it 2 a shop? how much would it cost for a shop to do it??? thanx
You can do it yourself >smile.gif>
how hard is it?? would it just involve unbolting the old motor, unplug old connections and reconnect everything? and where is it located?
Under the panels, if you want I can scan the chilton manual pages for it tonight, its decently easy (sorry I was so brief previously, at work)
o ok thanx it would be really helpful. what is the specific part that i need? wat do i ask for from toyota?

I'll get it all to you tonight >smile.gif>

I actually haven't gotten around to installing the motor, so its still in its case, I can even take pictures of it. >smile.gif>
good luck with the install! I dont recommend u doing it yourself. U have to take apart the entire back seat, side panels- just to get to the damn motor-remove window parts, etc..

I had same problem -about 3 x!! Both side motors went. I ended up buying them from the junkyard instead of paying a ripoff price off $300.. works fine..for now...the vert top is the only thing on my car that breaks--every summer-the back windows dont move up/down (replaced those stupid motors too)!...

This is an extremely easy repair to do(motor for the top), and one that the dealer will charge you big bucks. Now the side windows on a vert are a different problem, because they are hard to get to. Your also in luck, because I have a few extra motors laying around here. Pm if you are interested.
Do not pick up motors out of the junk yard for the 95-97 verts. ASC used a new model in 1998 because of the problems they had with the first version.

I would imagine it would fit but I do not know. If I had to guess, if you buy a new motor from Toyota, you will get the upgraded one no matter what year you specify. I bet they do not even have different part numbers.
