I was wanting to know how to adjust the sensitivity of the shock sensor on my Viper 550 esp security system, does anyone know how?

If it is a DEI sensor (should be) then there is a small flathead screw on the unit that would need to be turned for the adjustment. Do you know where the sensor is ? Does it look like this ?

Yep, Thats EXACTLY what it looks like, and i do know where the sensor is (my dad and I installed the system on Saturday >> ) I found that knob that I thought adjusts it... but i'm not sure which way to turn it... I messed with it some but it didn't seem to make a difference.

How sensive can it go?

Where did you all mount them to get the best readings?

how sensitive ? I have no clue. I installed one to my stock Jetta alarm and I mounted it so I would be able to access the adjustment screw. Then I turned the screw some, then armed it and kicked a tire / hit the window. Finally I got it to a point I liked.

As for mounting it in the Celica...I would say behing the radio in the dash securely mounted to the metal crash bar...or...under the shifter boot mounted securely to something down there.

nope. I turned it both ways a few times and I don't remember which was the best >> if you can, just turn it to the extreme one way - test it, then extreme the other way and test again. That should give you the answer.

What type of alarm do you have?

I added the DEI shock sensor to the stock alarm in my VW Jetta. In the Celica I installed a Crimestopper keyless entry ( not an alarm >> )

I'll try to adjust the senser today... hopefully and see if I can get it at the right setting... if I have any more problems... i'll make sure to post them here.

well still not very sensitive.... i just wonder if i'm not turning it enough or maybe not turning it the right way... Anyone have any pictures of where they have their sensitivity set at?

What about if you turn the screw, and tap it ? and responce there ? I remember I had to wait like 10 seconds in between tests. I think the best solution is mounting it in a better spot. The spot you picked might not get a lot of vibration. Also, if you used a double stick pad to mount it - not good - the pad absorbs vibration. You must secure it with zip ties or screws directly to something solid with nothing around it to absorb vibration. For example - if you put in on your seat and hit the seat, it wouldn't detect vibration, the seat absorbs it. Find some solid metal connected to the frame.

I will try to get a pic of how mine is adjusted but I don't think it will matter because 1 it's a different car & 2 if I had put it in a diffeent location it probably would be adjusted differently.

Also, it might react differently if it is mounted face up or on it's side, I don't know.

My best guess right now, try a different spot.

i can help you on this one. These shock sensors are cheap on ebay, so I would recommens you use a total of 3. One of the right side, one for the left side and one for the trunk. theres a little hole in the case and you will see the flathead adjustment. Turn it, a little and hit your car. Keep doing this until you find the proper adjustment. Its a 2 stage (green and blue wire), and all this means is that a soft tap will make the alarm use the warn away chirp and a hard one will make the alarm wail.set it to where if your car is tapped a little bit, the warn away will go off. You don't want a thief to break your window before the alarm goes off.

actually the best place to put a shock sensor is on the main wire harness. vibration moves through wire alot easier than metal. its that DEI suggests

yup, thats were i have mine mounted, i zip tied it to the harness.

hehe i'm getting confused... some of you say mount it to metal..... than other say the wire harness.... when i think about it... it seems like the wires would dampen any vibrations... but i think i'll just take ya all's word for it.

I just need to get out there and test it... just been so busy

hate to bring back a ghost topic but im about to mount my shock sensor, where is this main harness your guys refer to? thats where i want to mount this thing. also i ahve a proximity sensor that sends out waves, anyone got one of those with a good mounting location?

the main harness is the one that goes into the steering wheel, if you can mount the prox sensor in your armrest, so you get an even field

i have a proxy sensor installed. It all depends on where you aim the sensor. I Have mine behind the radio, and it can everything all the way back to the hatch. Problem is, during heavy rain, the proxy will trip the alarm. Because it thinks the sheet of water on the glass is something there.

So you have to be carefull on where you aim and mount the thing. I am still working on fine tuning it.
