i was just wondering what all you could do to make a 5sfe a all motor monster, no head swap,etc.

- i was thinking de stroke her a little 3s rods(hopefullyt rev to 8 grand).

- shave the head for a little for more compression.

- hard springs 20+ pound (whats stock valve spring pressure?)

- some crazy custom cams with huge lift (300+). might require some cutting in the gallery. (does the 5s have a lifter boss?)

- custom header.

- cai

- no cats

- some nice custom valve (lighter and harder)

- llighten the bottom end

- custom IM with downward runners.

- bigger TB.

- stand alone.

- crazy advanced timming.

- fueal rails.

- bigger injectory

- msd coil. (is the 5s single or dual coil ignition)

dont get the impression id build this if i ever own another 5s itll be turbo, but i probably will not own another. (pretty sure im getting a car with a 2zz in it for christmas)

anyways input would be awesome.

the head design is exactly what holds back the 5sfe engine

part of making it an all motor monster would have to be a head swap, porting can only do so much until the basic head deign becomes the limiting factor

A lot of what you list won't work. 3SGE rods are different and will require slight modification to fit on the 5S crank. Also, you can't de-stroke well by reducing the rod length. This also greatly reduces compression, stroke balance, amougst other things. The 5SFE like a majority of current model Toyota's don't use lifters. They use shims. You'd have to get some one piece shims or do some sort of shimless conversion to run as big of cams as you plan. Regardless... the 5SFE is not designed to flow at peak rpms for high rpm power... so the power will dip in the high revs due to both the head's flow capacity and the block's over-squaredness. As for the intake manifold, it's not as big of a deal where the runners go and how they're routed... but their lengths. Typically speaking, longer runners are designed optimal intake charge resulting in more torque. Shorter runners are designed for optimal flow overlooking charge for high rpm power. It'll be a lot easier to just get a 3SGE cause it'll have all of that from the get-go.

As for the possibility of a 5SGE... This too will be difficult because of the bottom-end. The 5SFE is a very over-squared design, so the bottom-end won't be able to fully utilize the GE head's high rpm power making capability because of its lackluster ability to rev. The bottom-end will need a bit of reinforcment and upgrades in order to reliably sustain high rpms...

That's about it... this is the only case where the 7AFE holds a lot of serious advantage over the 5SFE (n/a power). The 7AFE can handle revs well on the stock bottom-end while the 5SFE more than likely cannot do as well.

for the 5sfe shims you can use s2000 shimless buckets.

S2000 doesn't use buckets... Uses rocker assemblies with valve lash adjustments...

Really? Ive always seen the mr2 boys post about using s2000 buckets.... Hmmm.
