6gc.net 2005 Calendar Submissions - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #18696 63 posts Started by shid
Doggy's not working on the calendar anymore, so I'm stepping up to the plate and trying to get something finished for you guys before christmas. Here's the criteria:

1) Photo must be hi resolution; if it's not hi res enough it simply will be thrown out- clear? This is for a print calendar- we need the best dpi possible and that means you guys submitting the best resolution pictures possible

2) Photo must be scenic/show off the car, whatever. Look in other calendars for examples- notice how almost none of them have their hoods/trunks/doors open? it looks messy a lot of times.

3) Photo must be emailed to ig98 @ mac.com (by 11:59PM Dec 7th)
In your email you must include:

1) Forum name
2) Real name
3) year and model of car
4) A phone number where you can be reached (I will probably not be calling any of you, as I'm antisocial; but this is for legal reasons if they crop up later and I need to get a release)

PHOTOS POSTED IN THIS THREAD/ OR GALLERIES LINKED WITH A: "TAKE SOME PHOTOS FROM HERE!!" WILL NOT BE COUNTED

Only photos of YOUR OWN car (or cars, if it's a group photo) EMAILED to the above address will be considered.
Also note you may have to send me more than one email- if you're sending more than 2 photos persay- most email programs won't accept attachments above a certain amount.

once submitted, I will email you back saying I have recieved your submission

If I don't, hit me up on AIM or PM just in case.

On December 8th; a bunch of "finalists" will be posted for you guys to vote on.

Clear? Any questions?

SUBMISSIONS MUST BE EMAILED. DO NOT POST SUBMISSIONS BELOW (I will not weed through your assorted junk in this thread)
If you upload the picts to a server and send me links to specific picts, thats fine >wink.gif>

One last time, thats hi quality photos, emailed to ig98 @ mac.com by Dec 7th at 11:59 PM.

Q: My car isn't anything special.. so I won't submit.
A: It's not how special the car is, it's how good of a photo you take. Someone might have a 3sgte swap and an awesome paint job- but they probably won't make the calendar if they take the picture in a trash dump- while you take yours against the sunset on the pacific ocean. Get my drift?

Q: My car looks like **** now. I dont want to take a picture of it
A: old pictures (try not to be more than a year old) are acceptable! No reason not to.

Q: I don't have email. >frown.gif> >frown.gif> >frown.gif>
A: PM me, we'll work something out like a spot for you to upload your photos- the point is I want your photos, and we'll work something out to get as many submissions as possible.

BESIDES EMAIL, YOU COULD:
1) Upload the picts somewhere and send me links
2) Send me the pictures over AIM (file transfer only, no Direct Connect please. AIM name is ig98A)

If you do either of the above, you need to send me a PM with the same information I asked you to put in the email

Q: How much?
A: The final calendars will be offered for your purchase AT COST Which should be around 15-17 dollars + shipping. Printing costs are still being figured out. Neither I nor coomer will be making any profit off these calendars. I tried to get Coom to take some money... but he wouldn't.

Q: You're a jerk. How do I know you won't disqualify me just because you hate my guts?
A: This is everyone's calendar- not just my own. We'll be picking the finalists on photo merit only- so take a good photo.

Q: Will you be editing out plates?
A: Yes, dont worry about your plate numbers. They are safe with me. Mwahhah

What do we do if we don't have email? Mine hasn't worked at home for ages. >tongue.gif>

New Toyota project coming soon...
Awesome Shid, thanks for taking the initiative.

Should we send high res photos, or low res ones and only send the big ones if we're picked?

Just looking out for your inbox.

Submit them anyway? Come on man >smile.gif>

Amy, thanks for the link; but I'm not weeding through that thread for 3 reasons,

1) A lot of them are scaled down
2) I don't have their permission or information (real name, model and year, etc) nor am I going to PM everyone who posted in that thread and beg them for it.

I WILL post in the thread tho and ask them to submit >smile.gif>
Just one question.. are you going to mix the models ? hatch/coupe/ vert? or is it going to be mainly Hatch ?
Mixing it up, the more variety the better. the more colors, angles of cars, models, years, color; etc
Hatch is better >biggrin.gif>

Will send mine as soon as I get back to SoCal (Monday). Wish I had a better car to shoot...
Did my pictures work? I like coupes >biggrin.gif>

1. I'd say that we wouldn't want a ZX2 cluttering up our Celica calendar. I think most of you would agree. >smile.gif>

I'm not sure on the second question though. I never actually print any of my photos.

New Toyota project coming soon...
the zx2 is in the background, and not riced out or anything, its pritty nice, i think its kinda cool to round off the pics and have a few other cars in somewhere to even it out. (just my opinion)

I'd still say you wouldn't want it in the calendar anyway, because of the people in the background. >wink.gif>

Photoshop everything out that you don't want. This ain't the New York Times (and if it was you could still do it >tongue.gif> )

On a similar note, anyone want stylishly photoshopped work on a calendar? (And I don't mean adding the crosshatch filter or a gradient background).

Most photo stores print 4x6 photos at 300 dpi. They're uncompressed though. For a calendar... (what are the dimensions???) I'd recommend 4x6 at 600 dpi saved and sent as a TIFF (LZW I think is lossless compression).
i have a very neat black and white picture that i have to get from my girflriend. the only problem is that there is a crack on my paint on my front bumper.... it would need to be photo shopped out
Another car of another make WILL make it so your picture isn't included >smile.gif> I know it isn't riced out, i know it's tastefully done- but this is a celica calendar. NO FORDS ALLOWED. lol >smile.gif>

As for minimum resolution and what I want- idealy I want the LARGEST you can give me. Straight out of the camera. If you have a 4 megapixel camera; I BETTER get a 4 Megapixel image- not a scaled down and compressed 1 MB image (or lower)

The lower quality images you send me, the less chance it has of being in the calendar- the less good it will look if it makes it in the calendar.

As far as photoshop work- please send me UNphotoshopped images. I'll be color correcting them and touching them up as much as possible- as well as adding real names model and year number and month somewhere on it.

As for stylish photoshop (like, if you have a red car- making the image black and white except for the red) probably not- because it won't match the rest of the calendar.

The lowest one I really want to have in there is 1725x1350 - thats only 150 dpi (images are printed at 11.5x9- its not the largest- but thats our smallest print option right now).. Idealy we'd have 3450x2700 or larger for each image.

Bottom line? if it's 1024*768 its too small.

DO NOT SCALE YOUR IMAGE SIZE UP TO MAKE IT HAVE MORE PIXELS >tongue.gif>

Now I know why.

11.5 x 9 eh? I suppose you want to do the cropping yourself too, huh?
Just to let you know Shid, I posted some news on the site's home page so we can hopefully get more submissions. >biggrin.gif>
