Hood liner in celicas - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #18539 25 posts Started by Sterjs
Hello eveyone. Just wondering if the celicas came equipped with a hood liner/insulater. I noticed when it rained today smoke/steam forming on the hood with the water drops.

Thanks!

the steam is normal.

it seems that the liner came stock in 94-96 and 97-99 didnt get it

whats a hood liner?

the 1/4 doesnt have patience for a ST.... so we make them ST-T's so atleast we'll sound good going slow.

Hehe. The GT4 in the summer when sitting still has vision problems due to the heat haze off the IC after a hard run.

When it rains, it sizzles......

Mr. E:
I get that too (ST185 3s) although I'd think the ST205 would be better since you have the water pump - do you have that constantly running? If not thats an easy mod.

My 94 GT had a liner under the hood... thought about modifying it for the new hood, but decided against it.

As far as I know mate yes, it's constantly pulling liquid through the rad and chargecooler.

I pulled my liner off. The lady that had it before me had the valve cover seal missing, oil leaked on the belts, and was flung up to the liner and the liner was soaked in oil.
My 97 SSI has one, I thought it was stock as with the folding mirrors,
guess it keeps the engine noise down

the liner is actually a flame retardent blanket. incase your engine catchs fire, the blanket drops over the engine and suppress it. but i didnt have one either. 96 st
It's also to keep the heat off the hood so it doesnt own your paint. I ripped mine off tho, they look tacky i think

i get the heat coming out of my vent too!

Supersprynt, the vent sits over the exhaust heat shied and tubo, so it really dosnt have anything to do with the intercooler.

Definatley sounds like another difference between the st and gt.
Thanks for the replys! So it looks like earlier GTs got them.

The engine noise doesn't bother me, it's the paint I'm worried about.
I just bought the car about a month ago and after washing it a couple of times, the paint is very dull on the hood only. I waxed a corner of the hood and it was all better so hopefully that will restore the gloss.
