installing amp under front seat? - 6G Celicas Forums
Just threw mine under there today for the first time to check for clearance. I'm using a Soundstream refrence 500 and there is room but if the front seat isn't all the way back the amp shows. The fact that I never have anyone in back means this isn't a problem.
I'm gonna run the power cable down the left side of the car. Over the left wheel then into the car through a grommet in the drivers kick panel. There is plenty of room in the left door sill for wire. Ground the amp to one of the seat mounting bolts just clean off the paint first for a good ground. RCA's down the center consule.
Speaker wire can go down the left or right down the middle under the carpet. Choice is yours.
For mounting the amp I would use bolts with the bolt head on the bottom of the car. Plan where you will drill so you don't hit anything. Use washers under the nuts so you don't scratch the amp. Last step is to seal over the bolt heads to prevent it from rusting.

Why don't you put them in the trunk? >

Yea, just put the amp on the back of the rear seats. Since the back is cardboard or whatever, you can screw right into it and it'll stay.
yep >

Sometimes it's nicer to have amps inside the cabin rather than the trunk.
1. You don't have to run power wires, RCA cables, remote wires, etc., as far as the trunk.
2. Sometimes you don't want the amp in the trunk, because maybe you want a cleaner and less cluttered look for the trunk.

......whew sorry guys,...just the thought of someone with an amp attached to the rear seats gives me vietnam style flash backs....i say if ya can bolt it down under the seat with enough clearance and ventilation room, by all means do it..ANYTHING to make it harder to steal, IMO is a good thing..not to mention the point that commer made.. >

Mines under my butt too, but i wish I could help, I bought it with the amp and mini sub already installed. But, to let you know, it is possible though. >

i am gonna just screw mine on the top of the box and throw an old coat ontop of the box
just be careful when if you put the amp under the seat people might accidently kick it or spill something in the back
thanks everyone, im screwing it into the back of the box cuz im a bit sketched about the under the seat, or back of the seat since under the seat it would get tricky with the mounting and ventelation, and on the back seat i always have them folded down with tons of wet **** like snowboards and whatever on them
By mounting it under the seats.....no one can't steal it. Thats where Im putting mines >

=(
i mounted mine under my passenger seat although it is a rather large amp the butt end sticks out and people do some times kick it but not to bad of a problem... best place is deff under the seat i dont want my amp any where near my 2 12 inch subs better not to have it rattling and with the new amps they dont get very hot so it is by far the best place.
i had one mounted under the seat of my car and it kept getting too hot..
I also had one mounted in the rear window but someone broke into my car and stole it screwed up my window tint on the rear window too.
I also mounted an amp to the back of the seat like you had mentioned but with the vibrations and the weight of the amp if made the back panels start slipping off all the time now they won't stay up.
Next place i mounted was on the passenger side of my console right in front of the seat where i drilled big holes for air to flow across the back of my amp.

i got a clarion they dont get hot at all... so if you want to spend 500$ on an amp and hae heat sinks in it then put it under the seat >

I personally think placing an amp under a seat is a good idea, no air flow. But I understand people have issues with people breaking into their car or want to keep the trunk clean. I was thinking of moounting a second amp to the back seat, but if it can't take the weight and it pops out than I'll probablymount it vertically on a hinge where the jack is, and it can swing out of the way if I need the jack.
