my CLutcH!! - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #16421 23 posts Started by juBz86
ever since i bought this car i have had bad experiences!! well heres another one, the clutch got drastically lighter.

heres the story,(dont ask me why but it happened)

i launched out of first at 4krpm. and then i shifted into 2nd and the rpm was still high. anyway i stopped after that and i smelled something burning. i didnt run it for long. i think i "burned my clutch". the clutch itself works fine its just the pressure that was there isnt there anymore. the pedal feels so much lighter and easier to press.

wat should i do?
-should i replace the clutch? leave it alone?
-can i get the pressure back?
-how much for a new clutch? (racing and stock prices)
and about how much for installation at a shop??

help me out!!
o yea is this good?? xtd clutch
is this everything i need to replace the clutch? and will i get the feeling (pressure) back?
o yea is exedy a good company? should i get it off ebay??
heh i like the 3 posts to yourself >smile.gif>. anyway it kinda depends on what u wanna do, when i needed a new clutch i just got the oem one, because i'm planning on doing a swap eventrully and if i bought an expensive nice clutch it wouldn't bolt up to the new tranny. i paid 200 for the clutch, preasure plate and bearing from toyota. and i think i had a shop do just the work for 350. if you just burned it one good time, i wouldn't worry about it, just live with it. but if your just driving around and it's burning then it's time for a new clutch, if it's smelling alot it will soon start slipping.
Just freaking, please, freaking edit your post, instead of adding little tid bit's like that...

I heard good things about ACT for us, but whatever kwanza tells ya

I just replaced my clutch last weekend. I bought a clutch kit off ebay ($115). It was an "OEM Upgrade". Works perfectly. I am really satisfied with it. I paid to have it replaced and the total bill came out to be $440.85 ($385-labor, $35-resurface flywheel, $20-transmission fluid)

I don't know what your problem is exactly... When you accelerate, does your clutch slip at all?
nope not yet. just get scared everytime i start d
Did you know theres a box on the top right of each of your posts that says "edit?" It can be very useful sometimes. >wink.gif>
dam u jojo!!!! must u be so smart!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!??!?! >tongue.gif>

I never new that. i'm an idiot.
how long have you had you clutch? do you abuse on it alot? when you hit the gas does your RPM// just shoot up like if your giving it a shoot on 02? ..

don't be like me and wait till the last minute to fix things .. then get stuck on the highway for 5 hours waitting for a tow truck.. just go have your clutch replaced... your going to have to do it sooner or later.. and if you are taking off at 4kRPM.. yea your going to burn you clutch real quick.. it's ok once in a while .. but not all the time...

I have that spectial "cluch" smell once in a wile when I take off fast, or sit in seattle traffic, unless your cluch is old, (25k + miles on it) then i'm sure your fine, unless you really grinded it. when you lonched did you just skid and take off, or did it really jurk then go. if you just started skiding you probibly did not do much, you do more damage when you slowly get it to click in then droping it.
i dont know how old the clutch is. i bought it from a dealer and we dont know the specs on the car. this is the only time i launched at 4krpm. i didnt skid it just seemed to accelerate quicker than normal.

but ive been hearing about the master and slave clutch cylinders. would i have to replace that to?
just replace the clutch if you dont feel any pressure. also check if ur clutch is almost dead by i think start the car drive it, switch to 5th gear and accelerate, if the rpm goes up and then goes back down, it's time for a new clutch.

that happened to me and my clutch burned out, had to tow it to the shop ><.

and dont go to ammaco for ur clutch, they'll take 352398572 days and rip u off.
dude loss of pressure in the pedal is either your clutch line broke and lost fluid/ have a leak somewhere or your pressure plate is messed up.

hows it taste motha f*cka
fluid is still there.
then im guessing your pressure plate may be ****ed? the fingers may be too loose now and so its easy to press on.

hows it taste motha f*cka
I abuse the crap out off all of my clutches (currently have 3 spare kits for my 4AGs) and they always take it. If the pedal feel drastically changes out-of-the-blue, it could be pressure loss or something. Pump the clutch... if that doesn't work, check the slave and master cylinders. The slave cylinder could be stuck not allowing the clutch to completely disengage causeing slippage and soft pedal feel. If it's not that, then it's most likely your pressure plate is worn and you should replace it. Excedy is factory stuff and is very good quality. I believe they make factory Honda and Toyota clutches under different company names (daikin for Honda, not sure for toyota).

where can i get an exedy clutch kit? i kinda dont trust ebay. thanx ppl!!
Yeah, my clutch is getting ready to go. I was spraying my 75 shot and when i shifted at 5k to second it just stayed at 5k. And the car kind o bucks sometime like if you're just driving normally when you start moving. Is that just part of an old clutch or something else?

yea its a real pain in the arse!! i want to find a cheap realiable place online but all i have found is stuff that is just way out of my budget!!
Just how cheap are you wanting to go? The second link is almost too low to be true. I paid 248 dollars for one from Toyota themselves. Thats not exactly really expensive but its not cheap. If you are looking for reliability go with the stock clutch from Toyota. If you want cheap go with exedy or the one that I pointed you to on the second link that I edited in (178 Dollars?!?! Come on that is freakin cheap!). My opinion, fork over the cash and get the one from Toyota. You don't want to be stuck with a clutch that sucks.
