depends on where u get it. Try ebay and try

From the dealer its $400, try to find it on ebay, and I think theres possibility of using an RX7 AFM but it'll require more rewiring.

aren't the 3rd Gen 3SGTE's MAP sensored?

I'm helping Goatrunner do the swap and I too was wondering if the car is a speed density setup or if it is a mass air style. I am not really familiar with Toyota's or anything that is special to them. I am a GM tech, so I'm more used to Domestics >

Any help with this would be grateful

the 3rd gen does NOT have a mass air flow meter, so don't worry about it.
ok, good. anything special that we have to worry about going from the 5s-fe to the 3rd gen 3sgte motor?
double post...

the swap should be the same thing as doing a 2nd gen 3sgte. The only difference i can think of, might be the wirring. But don't quote me on that .
Wow yeah i didnt even realize he was talking 3rd gen.
Dropping it in will be easy but i'd grind downt he drivers side "mount" so it doesnt rub on the belt cover.
MR2 tranny as well.

Thanks for all the tips everyone, its greatly appreaciated.
your welcom
i am awesome
Every one that ive seen needed the mass air flow. My car is a 5sfe and I did the swap and needed the mass air flow.I used the one out of a mk3 supra.A mr2 will work as long as it is turbo charged!
You will still need to keep your air temp sensor to!
so it is soppossed to have a mass air flow sensor?
3rd gen 3sgte's don't use a Mass Air FLow meter.

The 3rdgen doesnt need one as long as you are using the 3rd gen ecu.I have a st165 and I had problems with the wiring on my car and couldnt figure out why things didnt match up.Then I called up toyota to find out the part # and were it came off of and it was a 3sgte from a 91 mr2. So because the mr2 has a mass air flow meter I had to get one!
ok so the 3rd gen motor dose not need one and the 2nd gen motor dose need one but if i use the 3rd gen ecu with a 2nd gen motor its not needed correct? ok so whats this that i keep hearing about an igniter?

I agree with kwanza on this! You will need a coil pack for your 5 plug off your distributer. You should go straight to a accel or a msd because you wont have to up grade later. And more spark more power!
