Transmission Problem - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #15307 12 posts Started by Ale_lock
My problem: I put the car in drive, accelerate hard while the car's transmission is in first then you hear the car choking in a way, like it stays in first gear & you hear the engine wanting to rev faster but drops in rpm & picks back up & repeats unless you let off the gas & then accelerate to allow the transmission to mesh into second & etc, its weird & it occurs on through all gears when you hold down the accelerator & don't let off when you hear the car nearing its shift point, any ideas as to the problem? I'm going to get the car checked out but it'd be nice to see if anyone else has had the problem & what was the solution if they fixed it.

Edit: I am not sure if anyone can understand what I'm trying to say, so I'll see if I get a chance to get a quick video uploaded somewhere of what occurs.

In addition to what was said above you might want to have someone check out your torque converter.

Can someone please explain in detail to me about OD? I just keep it on all the time...

Over drive makes your auto tranny shift at lower RPM's to give you better gas mileage. If you turn it off you can make your tranny go to the Higher RPM's so you can go faster and harder. (I think again correct me if I am wrong)
