Quick question: I've been fixing some dents on my hood with body filler... I put my first layer of filler on. Then I sanded it with 220 grit with a DA, but I forgot to use something rougher before putting on another layer of filler. Now it's been two days and the filler I put on is still kinda soft. What should I do? Do I have to scrape it off because it didn't grip the first filler layer? Or will it harden eventually?

did you use a bondo type of filler, or a filler you have to mix with a hardener?

I used a filler I had to mix with hardener. Evercoat is the brand I think, it's good stuff.

how big is the dent., but if its still soft after 2 days you didnt use enough hardner. thats what im thinking, yes evercoat is some good stuff, rage is good 2.

You may just need to wait a while before it gets fully hard. When I was fixing a dent in my '88 Celica, I didn't use enough hardener and it was soft after a couple days. A week later though, it was rock hard, just like the rest of the properly-mixed body filler areas of the car.

You don't really need to use a really heavy grit before you apply the filler. But I would take that stuff off and remix it with more hardener. Too much hardener won't ruin the stuff, you'll just have less time to work with it. It should be sandable after 10min. And make sure you mix it well and consistent.

I dunno, I might just wait a week, see what it feels like. If worse comes to worse, I'll scrape it off and put on some new filler.
