4agze Swap.... - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #14925 23 posts Started by FAQdaWorld
Well, as some of you may know I as well am trying the 4agze swap. The other day my father and I succesfully managed to pull the 7afe and got the engine bay cleaned out a bit.

In the next week or two I'll be prepping the gze to be dropped into the celica. Right now I'm basically just replacing all the essentials (belts, water pump spark plugs) etc. Also giving it some good ole fashioned elbow grease and cleaning her up a bit. We hope to have it in sometime in the next 2 weeks. I'm not even gonna say anything about how soon it 'could' be running, as that never works w/ swaps anyway. But the engine should be in and mounted within the next 2 weeks or so.

Looking at the mounts today i realized why i was having some problems w/ vibration before, one of the mounts seems to have been ripped pretty badly, and will need to be replaced. In fact both the front and rear mount are looking kind of shotty to me, and I think I will replace them both, does anyone have any idea where i can get these replaced? And if it really matters w/ the AT mounts vs the MT mounts? Comparing the AT mounts on the 7afe, and the MT mounts on the 4agze I am thinking they are close enough that i can still use them, but any input would be appreciated. Heres a pic of the front motor mount that is pretty well shot, you cant see how bad it really is, but that gives you a general idea i think....

New Toyota project coming soon...
depends on what car that GZE is out of... if it has an e51 tranny, then the rear mount is just a tiny bit too short, but i've heard it's modifyable to work (in an ae92).....

i haven't been on this forum lately... i'll post up when i get my gze and will be going into my aw11..... should be a simple swap... however, i'm going the cheater route and will be building a megasquirt ecu to run it... possibly sell the s/c and ecu and buy a turbo.... who knows
thats awesome man, jw is that from an ae101?
yup, 1993 Levin to be exact >wink.gif>

Got some more work done on her tonight, got the 4agze tranny off the gze, still workin on cleaning her up a bit. Thinking about painting some stuff on her and getting to be real pretty, but I'm not 100% sure yet. Got my first look at the flywheel and the clutch, removed em both. I am prolly gonna go ahead and get the flywheel machined, and definitely a new clutch. Basically I'm just waiting for JOHN to send me the axles so I can do the test fit, then We will know for sure what i'll be doing (tranny wise). Anyway, heres a few more pics....

Also, i ordered a new motor mount to replace the front mount that was pretty messed up, should be here by tomorrow (technically today), only 64 bucks not as bad as i suspected, still trying to find shifter cables, havent had any luck there.

Next on the list is changing all the belts on the gze, installing clutch & clutch master cylinder, and probably some of the newer cables. Kind of stuck here waiting to see what I can do, but there is lots of little things i can do to keep busy. Engine actually wont be going in for another week or two when my father gets back, so I'm gonna be taking my time >wink.gif>

measure the clutch before you buy one.... there's about a million 4age clutch sizes.... ranging from 200mm to i believe 230mm.....

also, go to a junkyard and pick up a 4th gen celica throttle cable... you'll need a longer one over the 7afe cable

yep, that's an ae101... it has the smaller supercharger pulley.... it's the 10psi version

All the 4agze's used the same flywheel, which was 212. I am probably gonna end up using a custom clutch from one of the boys over @ club4ag.

hey faqdaworld what kind of tranny are you gonna use for that 4agze?
My mistake kwanza, all 4agze's use the 224, i remembered things backwards, and i'll be using the tranny that came with the 4agze (if johns axles fit), if not, then i'll be using the tranny from the 7afe manual, which i'm not looking forward to.

Ok, today I got the flywheel resurfaced and I received the axles from John. The axles fit fine So i will be using them. With any luck the motor will be ready to go in this weekend or early next week at the latest. I dont have any really interesting pics to show, but he's a before and after pic of the flywheel

The new clutch should be here in the next few days and then I can bolt up the tranny. All the belts have been swapped on the gze, just need to change the plugs and maybe clean her abit more and she's ready to go in. Thats all, i'll update tomorrow more thoroughly...

That's one big a$$ flywheel... at least compared to my 4AGE's... ;]

I'm looking to do a 4A-GZE swap too & currently trying to find out what it takes for the swap. I'm taking my 2 cars down to Sacramento, California (I live in Tacoma, Washington) so i need to know much $$$ it cost & what parts to buy. By the way, I'm putting a 3S-GTE in my Mr2 & taking the Mr2's engine (4A-GZE) & throwing it in my 94 ST Celi. >biggrin.gif>
Well, this past weekend the engine went in, just fiddled w/ it some and got the starter to turn (to make sure that it was still good and the like), Not quite ready to fire it up, but over the course of the next few weekends we'll start plumbing it and then we can try to start it (crossing my fingers)

Anyway, here are some picks for y'all....
