If I were to take off/ replace my valve covers, head gasket and stuff, would putting it back on require me to know exactly how tight to screw it in, like a certain measurement or rating, or do I just tighten all that stuff as much as it can go??? Also I tend to burn oil reallly quickly, to where I have to put in a quart or more every month or so. I mean it is a 10 yr. old car, so it might be age, but I was wondering if you guys might know what else it is or if anyone has a similar problem. I'm thinking it might need new piston rings or a new seal somewhere in there, but I'm not sure. Give me your thoughts.

the only thing i can answer in that is to tighten the valve cover, im pretty sure you need a torque wrench....

to tighten any bolt on the car you need a torque wrench.. especially when it' comes to engine and transmisson and suspension parts..

Torque on the head is very specific, you are even supposed to use new bolts only when putting the head back on.

Get a manual (not Haynes, I regret buying one) and it'll tell you how tight to torque. Also, replace your value cover gasket ($40).

the valve cover is not a big deal when it comes to how tight the nuts should be. a very easy answer to this question is to just snug the nuts down. dont leave em loose and dont over do em
you will be fine.....

So far ive replaced 3 valve cover head gaskets in my car (auto xing and over reving) each one ive justed tightend it nice and snug and was ready for more action.

i dont have by book right in front of me but the valve cover gasket torque spec is probably right around 10-14 ft-lbs or 13-20 n.m
