This has been posted on other celica sites but they all say to come here..:
First off, I want to know what you all think of a '96-97 celica that would be fixed up. I also want to know the limits of horsepower, torque, etc..you can push on the stock engine, and is it difficult to modify or add a turbo onto the engine?
Last question, If i wanted to supercharge it, would i use a centerfugal or positive displacement supercharger?
Thanks in advance,
AC
There is not much you can do to get more power out of the 7afe becasue of the economy head design and weak crankshaft. Currently there is no supercharger kits for the ST celica, but there are turbo kits for a corolla, which shares the same 7afe engine.
So you suggest swapping engines?

Which is more difficult on the ST than the GT - or so I'm told. Something about the mounts or something.

How about a 96, or 97 GT?

Sold my Celica....
Another difference might the OBDI and OBDII. Forgot what years they switched over. 96+ might be OBDII.
If its a GT the 3sgte will fall in pretty easy, or so ive read. The only hard part is suppose to be the wiring. You can even use the stock transmission if you dont plan on building up the engine any more than a bit above stock.
Also, if its a GT turbo is an option as the ct26 turbo and manifold from a 3sgte bolts right on. Additionaly, Ripp Mods offers a very good supercharger kit for the 5sfe. Its centrafugal i think.
take a look at the stickies on the top of the engine/trans performance section. They will answer more than i can.
Its Orville's Celica, i just drive it...
do a custom turbo setup... Iam doing one now.. If you do the swap its alot of downtime and all the money is dished out at once.. Turbo you can save up, buy a part, save and buy... And it should only take about a weekend to install it if everything goes well.. Just a suggestion... Think about it
