Finally got a header on my car to finish the exhaust off. I haven't found out exactly who made it yet, but my exhaust shop did some more work to it and put it on. I know they got it from www.hitechmufflers.com.au in Queensland, and It's either a Genie or Hurricane I'm pretty sure. Happy with the piping and my car sounds awesome with it now. I'll try to get some audio clips soon >> It's a 4-2-1 as you can see, and I also got a new high flow cat as well.

Looks kind of dodgy at the moment because of the coating the steel had on it, but I'm getting it painted next week. And after that the head is getting a work over and paint job >>

^^^ Nup, I think because it's a 4-2-1 (and there is only about 1" difference), each side of the header still has the same flow so it doesn't matter much. The engine is much more responsive from about 2,000 thru to 4,500 revs.. which is what I was aiming at with the 4-2-1.

SiK cheers (and yours looks nice!) yep sure looks like a bit of crush bend ... But I am not too stressed ... the flow in comparison to the stock header is still MUCH greater.

Header was $500 AUD, thats about $350 USD.

So exhaust system:

Header $500
High flow cat $250
Resonator, piping, Muffler $750

$1500 AUD = $1000 USD. I got the cat-back section and the front half done seperately so it cost me a bit more that it would have otherwise.

I did it the same way as you. I had a cat back for a few years and then I did the header to the cat.
Have you thought about getting a air/fuel management system?.
I got my SAFC tuned and it made HEAPS of difference to the torque and overall output. And it has saved me heaps of fuel as well. My car was running rich as after my filter and exhaust system.

The SAFC has payed for itself through the savings on the fuel and the car runs better now.

Yeah I have actually. Going to get a CAI made up and the head ported then I'm keen. Not sure whether to get a basic chip or to spend a bit more... haven't really researched prices and that too much yet. What's your apexi like (as in what differences did you notice) and how much did it run ya?

Erm that is steel Magic. (edit - just noticed you wrote s-steel, and it would have cost me $500 more to get stainless ones custom made) I agree it looks crappy at the moment, that is why I am getting it coated next week. Not sure on whether I'll get it chromed or ceramic painted - depends on what is available around my area.

***update***

Picked up the finished header parts today. They were put in an acid bath for a couple of days and then ceramic coated inside and out. Blew me away when I picked it up this is going to look awesome under the hood...



I only got one quick snap of them because I was on my lunch break and running heaps late ... luckily the boss was away today so I got to chat with the exhaust guys for a bit >>

That really thick part on the bottom section is a flex joint.. They coated the whole lot and it was done really well... I was bending the flex joint about 5-10 degrees each way and there was no flaking on it.

Everything will be finished by tomorrow lunchtime (supposedly) so I will get some pics tomorrow night. I am so stoked that I'm gonna be able to drive again! I never got to feel what the exhaust was like because the clutch was slipping bigtime... and I have only gone without the car for 2 weeks, but I understand what some of you swappers went through now >>

i wish i would've got one like that...changing my oil is a beeyotch w/ my header the way it is.

yours looks like oil changing is a breeze...

does anyone know where I can get a header like this in the states for around 350 or less? I need one badly. I know there is someone on here that is plannin to make a bunch for the people on this site but he's got tons of people interested and he still wants like $500 ea.

Sorry Neg not sure. You should ring some local exhaust shops and see if they can fabricate one for you.

Finally uploaded some new pics... Took the radiator off while I was putting the header on, & since it had a crack in the top tank I got a new one for $80 and flushed and cleaned the radiator... sadly ran out of batteries right while it was out of the car. Anyways put the radiator back on & refilled coolant system now she's nice and cool >>







Future plans are polish up as much of the block as I can, take the head & intake manifold in to machine shop and get them polished inside & out... Stainless cold air intake (running between the radiator top hose and the battery.. going to relocate the cruise control box) and some braided lines as well.

I think it will look pretty nice by that stage. >>

Very nice Kamix, well done on the upgrades... especially the top part of the radiator. I have heard some horror stories when it actually cracks. I have fracture lines going through mine, so every now and then I check to see if there are more major stress lines.

Thanks. Yeah SiK mine was pretty nasty. I would sit with my bonnet up revving it in neutral, and over 3700 rpm coolant would spray out of the cracks. >>

I recorded some wav files of my exhaust today. It was heaps windy so the quality isn't too great but it gives you an idea.

Revving in neutral This one didn't pick up the low notes or idle very well.
Idle noise This one sounds kind of strange because I had the mic pretty much jammed in the exhaust pipe. >>
Driving up to 3rd gear and back down again With the Mic sitting on the passenger seat & windows down.

2.25" all the way with straight thru header/downpipe, flex joint, cat, resonator, 4" muffler = no restrictions = nice sound. The recording don't really do it justice though.
