Just rode the tail of the dragon. - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #11119 48 posts Started by jwells
Me, aaron, and bryan just got back from riding the Tail of the Dragon. Bryan should have some pics later, and there's a video in the works from aaron. That road is a BLAST! It really pushes the limits of the celi. We did see some dumbasses out there in like a firebird, a mustang, and this brokeass nissan sentra with a big ass tach, some fart can muffler. He couldn't hold a freakin match to the celi!

For those unfamiliar- I attached a link to aDragon Map pic.

I've read a lot about this, can't wait to see pics.

sounds and looks like fun. theres a guy at the supra forums who crahsed his SupDawg there, sucks for him, it happened sometime in march 26-28.
Well, let me tell you this is one FUN ass road. It pushes the limits of a stock celica, but if you have a good suspension setup it is even better. But just some info on the tail, 318 curves in 11 miles. Yes you read it correct 318 curves in 11 miles. It is really a road that the sport bikes own but any good car can run it and have a blast. My pics are coming but the Vid is what you all are really going to love. I think that this is going to be a monthly gathering to run the tail so If you live within 3 hours of it you should think about making the drive to join us in may.

Major fun. Definitely need a monthly meet, and we really need to see you there next time Eric.

I just got home(stopped at a friends house for a while), and will have the video on my computer tonight(SUNDAY) and should have it available by Tuesday(after I shrink it down to a decent size for transfer). After that I'll probably just try my luck with Premier. We got so much more useable footage than we did at PF last year(although a lot of it is of the bikes).
you guys gonna be hittin this @ the meet this year??

I'd kill myself on a road like that. >smile.gif>
man the bikes really like that road. how many bikes do you think you saw that day.

and where are the cops, it seems like someone would kill themselves and then the cops would crack down

We should all run this after the Pigeon Forge meet this year if its close enough.
When I had a sportbike I always talked about trailering there just to ride the Dragon some weekened. I wish I had. Now shes gone (stolen). But I still have the Celica (and a Miata) that I really need to take there.

Sounds like you guys had a great time. Someday I'll make the haul up there and run with you guys. By then I'll have a turbo celica to bring to the dragon. >biggrin.gif>

BTW, everyone that lives within 3 hours of the Dragon SUCKS!!!!!! I'd give my left nut to have it in my back yard. I'd be there every weekend.
Oh we are deffenatly going to be running it at the meet. John you should come out some time even though its a long drive for you. I will be running this about once a month now that I have been bitten by the dragon.

i've actually been talking about this on another board i'm on (speed-society, shameless plug)..

i'm thinking about hooking up w/ some friends down there on the way (sort of) to NOPI this year...

should be fun.

we have a similar road here in northern WA (chuckanut drive)..... there aren't as many corners (probably about 50-60) but there are also long straights to get goin quickly on (upwards of 100-130mph)....

i wish we had that here though.... i'd probably be pissing tons of civics off >biggrin.gif>
Video news: I'm hoping to have the vid available tomorrow, just figured out how to convert it from DV-AVI into a usable format. I'm debating on FTP or BitTorrent. I'd rather use BitTorrent, but not many people know of it.

3rd gen ST205 3SGTE - Alive and boosting.
Well you guys should come down, trust me it will be well worth the drive. Aaron John said that he would host it for us, so you could send it to him or you can just set it up yourself.

OK, I have the first file ready for everyone. It's Brian following me and an Integra. It's 2 and a half minutes, and about 12 MB.
Hit me up on AIM to get it.(same name as here)
I'm going to make a few quick clips of the bikes, and then call it a night. I have the big file(just over 800 meg) ready too, but Brian has first dibs on it.
