Engine Swap Price Question - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #10030 18 posts Started by Morel
I have a chance to buy a 3S-GTE engine for about 500 bucks (a buddy of mine owns a garage and got a car with it in that was hit in the back end.. heh)

Now, I have a 97 ST, how much more will it cost me not including garage costs ( said buddy will help me out with putting in it)

Thanks!
Welcome to the site. >smile.gif> What car is the 3S-GTE coming out of? That will affect what you need. Chances are you'll need a ST204 tranny and shift linkage cables, and a few other parts.

Also, you can find lots and lots of info about this if you do a search. >wink.gif>

A 93 MR2 Turbo. It was smashed in the rear end.. And is a mess from the front seat back.. No damage that we can see to the front end.. Got slammed by (oddly enough) a tow truck.. lol. He got the entire car for like 2 grand.. And will sell me the engine/tranny and anything else I need for the swap for 500-700 bucks (depending if I need to strip the entire engine out) he's taking everything that I don't need and selling it on ebay.. lol

oh yea, I also can get a 3S-GE for like 250 bucks.. If this one would be cheaper and easier to put in. I can "Settle" for only 175hp >smile.gif> This is my first project of anything this size, and I'd like it to be as easy as uncomplicated as possible.. lol

You are aware that the 3S-GTE in a MR2 is behind the front seats, right? It's not in the front of the car. >wink.gif>

Also, what is the 3S-GE from? Does it include a tranny?

...you do know the motor is IN the back of the car right?? >confused.gif>

and easy, uncomplicated, first project, and settling are are not words that would describe a Toyota engine swap, unless you ask mike lol

Well screw that then.. hehe. ok, Since I have a lowely 97 ST (Ann Edition.. oooOoo) any suggestions for pumpin up the power a bit? And ones won't cost more then the car did >smile.gif>

well I would buy a GT.. but I can't find one around here.. lol

But thanks for all the help guys >smile.gif>
the 7afe motors arent performance built, they can BE performance built, but building a motor consists of tearing it down and replacing alot of the weak economy oriented parts.... it isnt cheap.

Well the thing is. I won't have to pay for any labor.. Since my best friend owns a fully stocked garage.. heh..

Something to look into anyways >smile.gif>
parts are what are not cheap, i dont think your friend is going to give them to you for free...

I said labor is gonna be free.. not parts. hehe. I'm not that lucky >smile.gif>

What about that mr2 motor you were talking about, if labor is gonna be free why wouldn't you buy that?
