Shift at 2k, but don't push the throttle very far down so you don't lug the car. You can be in 5th by about 35-40mph.

I've done this before, but just for your info:
I get 29-30 mpg with the 5sfe, country driving usually in the 40-50 mph range. Highway is typically not any better due to the short gearing. I wish I had...
