still can't get this to work though. now when i test each wire in the new harness with a multimeter, the red one shows 14.3V, the rest are 0. Shouldn't the yellow one read 14V as well?

Depends on the tire size obviously. With 215/45/17s there would be very little tire rub.
And yes they will be very sucked in. Even with a 25 mm spacer you will still be quite sucked in.

^^^ yeah, that's what i'd do. 25f/30r would be better, but thats kinda sketchy.
(actually i would just buy 17x8s or 17x8.5s; you can't pull off the proper flush look with a 7" wide wheel)
