Yeah I have grinded mine aswell. But I'm only looking at a 15mm spacer. It was the back of the wheels problem. There's a space for the spacer to sit. But wasn't wide enough.

The alternator charges your battery whilst you drive. So if it's not working, or not working it's best, soon your battery will just be flat and you won't be able to start it.
