If it will shift with the engine off it's the clutch.
If it's still stuck with the engine off it's not the clutch.
Try removing the shift cables and whacking the shift levers.

Don't bother replacing it, just clean it out with brake cleaner.
The trans filter is just a metal mesh screen.

Check Engine light on?
Any codes in the history?
Autozone does free code checks.

It might just be that your not smooth enough on the transition from clutch to gas.
If you "jolt" the engine instead of smoothly engaging it will run weak for a second before it catches back up.

They may have been designed overly sensitive for a reason.

You've got to take the whole transmission apart.
IIRC you need to remove all the gears/bearings on the input shaft, I wouldn't recommend doing this yourself.

P0401 and P0420?
Your EGR valve and cat are probably bad.
Replace them.
The codes are unrelated, unless a wiring harness is damaged somewhere.
But that still wouldn't give you P0420.

If someone is going to do an AWD swap, this is the "set" to buy, that's a pretty good price and should include just about everything you need.

As long as the head isn't warped you don't necessarily need to send it to a machine shop.
It all depends on the condition of the head.
You do want to replace the head bolts though.

Probably not, unless you've changed something in the valvetrain.
The shims wear very little, even engines with 200K+ don't tend to be out of adjustment.

Slave or master cylinder.
Check both for fluid around them.
Master will be inside the car by the top of the pedal, slave will be dripping underneath itself.

Most likely there's a problem with the clock spring [wiring that allows the wheel to turn], or a connector for said wiring.
They're both on the steering column behind the steering wheel.

For the salt, soap and hot water.
For the rust, heh, take your pick, there's loads of ways to remove it.
However, long term, your car is probably junk.

I think you should separate all 4 runners and make a flange for each of them.
This way you can run 4 turbos = 4X the boost.
Can't beat that.
