Why don't you run it without a thermostat for a while and see what happens, will take longer to warm up but see if it over heats then. Also when you get the thermostat out check it to see if it works ...

Usually what i say to people like this is just buy a GT4 ha but if you are determined to see it through you can always keep it at 2wd which would be easier by using the gearbox off an mr2.
